What Are The Options For Head Coach?

So I'm officially on the FIRE Jacks Martin campaign. But the only question is who do we replace him with?

Larry Robinson? Proven winner and Habs legend but I just feel maybe we should go younger. Not sure if he wants the job anyways.

Jacques Lemaire? Proven winner on crappy teams but his style is similar to Jacks and we're losing with this so called system.

Patrick Roy? Won't take losing as easily as Jack but inexperienced.

Kirk Muller? Can he speak French?

Denis Savard? He seemed to did a pretty good job with the Hawks young team before he was let go.

Guy Carbo? Again? maybe he learn something? ... or not.

Perry Pearn? As an interm-basis?

Randy Cunneyworth? Last year head coach in Hamilton.

Others?

I hope my sarcasm detector is broken.

Roy or Muller. We absolutely need a motivator behind the bench. Muller was doing a great job last year but now there is no one to give pep talks to the guys.

Can they speak French?

But more importantly, can they fight?

That Russian coach, I forget his name.

Apparently he had interest (or was it us?)

Forgive my ignorance as a fan of... another team.

But if you do decide to make a change behind the bench, shouldn't you go with the best coach available and not necessarily the one that speaks the best French?

It just seems like such a non-issue to me.

Muller or Roy, although I have reservations toward the latter given his inexperience and tendency to lose his cool. That said, it would be nice to have some personality behind the bench; a guy the players know would both have their back and go to war with them. Martin almost seems to agree with the refs. I'm not saying we should have a coach screaming every night but show some emotion. Moreover we can focus on this team's strength; fast paced offense, in lieu of this trap style that just doesn't work for us in the season.

How about make Gomez coach and use his cap space to source competitive talent.

I understand the frustration but Martin's style has proven to be effective. I do truly feel, however, that the team really misses Kirk Muller. I just feel like he brought a sense of emotion to the team. There is a lack of "something" this year... Can't pinpoint it, but it's the truth. I think the lack of a guy who gets pissed behind the bench makes a big difference. I think we wait till game 18 before any decisions should be made. Martin has his faults but he's the best coach we've had in a long time.

Being bilingual is a requirement for this job

The head coach of the Habs has to be able to address the French media , well, in french

Well if speaking french is a required for the job, Martin is laughing all the way to the banks since there is no other people available other than Roy. Sigh.

Realistically - Habs need a complete rebuild starting with Gauthier - a new GM to take the organization in the right direction (the Habs have been going around in circles for years between mediocre and poor teams).

A close look at Gauthier's track record as a NHL GM will expose his inabilities to build a true competitor.

However - in order to try and save his own job Gauthier has no choice but to can Martin - if he can convince Geoff Molson that the Habs problems are rooted in coaching (which is only partially true) - he may be able to buy more time for himself....but (hopefully) the axe is being sharpened for the GM!

With the owner now running the Habs team as 'President' I am not sure that being bilingual is the #1 priority it was under the presidency of Pierre Boivin - hopefully, winning will now be the main objective!

yah.......Pierre, Jacques and Perry just need to go away......they've worked together forever....they were in Ottawa....never won nothin.... as long as they are here.....they won't win nothin either. We need somethin new, somethin fresh.

Every coach we get......Therrien, Vigneault, Julien...go on to become pretty good coaches, we just always get rid of them before they prove it with us. Jacques has been around forever and won absolutely nothing.....there is a reason for that people.

My choices are as follows.

Benoit Groulx
Clement Jodoin
Eric Veilleux
Guy Carbonneau
Gerard Gallant
Patrick Roy

Left some great coaches out but they were anglophones sooo I didn't have a choice. Dale Hunter would be a good choice.

Sadly I don't know who we can bring in this season to replace Martins.....other then Jodoin.
