It's funny how under Tippett the Coyotes has had much more success than when Gretzky was there yet I prefered the style of play the Yotes had with Wayne. It was more wide open hockey and they had far more grit. It's strange how a formely skilled guy like Wayne had such a boiling temper as coach and how his teams always were in brawls. Tippett is such a bore and his teams are just like him.

What a lazy bum.

Seriously though he's made enough money that he can enjoy life the way he wants.

Why would Gretz even need a job?

With all the loot the guy has.

Well, in all fairness to Tippett & by rote Maloney, they've had little choice absent the budget & ability to attract UFA's etc & as such are forced to play a conservative defensive system. There is no love lost between Wayne Gretzky & the friends & relations he employed in Phoenix amongst the fan base. He's far from being the first Superstar unable to make the transition from player-coach.

But Tippett was also a bore in Dallas?

and has shown zero aptitude & ability as an executive for an NHL team. Just because he was a great player does not mean he will be a great executive. Lemieux would be a solid choice as commissioner, but I doubt he is even interested...

Blame Punch Imlach and on down to Jacques Lemaire for that one in the more modern era. Like many, you obviously love Firewagon Hockey. Me too. Bit of a distant memory & pipe dream in this era of parity..

Thats an intriguing and interesting suggestion. I think you may be right in speculating that he'd have little interest. The commitments in time & effort in the role of Commissioner are daunting. Still, with a Legal mind as Deputy Commissioner in a back-up role, as the face of the league, he'd certainly command a lot of respect & is a pretty astute guy. Good pick.
