No, my lowest point as a fan was when the Dispatch printed the article last season showing how foolish it is to be a CBJ season ticketholder. I realized that I had been renewing expensive seats for years clinging to false hopes and denial. It was a real kick in the ass.
My wife confessed to me that she considered ordering our tickets over the summer after I told her I wasn't renewing. Last week she told me about it and let me know she is glad she didn't and that I was smart to quit buying season tickets after 10 years of ineptitude.
I'd like to say it is, but then I have flashbacks to the latter part of the ex-GMDM era, which was a nightmare no matter how you look at it. Then I remember who's in our barn for tomorrow's game and realize that most likely tomorrow around 9:30pm EST or so will be my lowest point as a CBJ fan. THEN I remember that at this point, our PSL is about as worthless as Confederate Dollars...so I guess it can hypothetically always get worse, but I'm afraid to think about it anymore.
My biggest headache now is the fact that I managed to talk my wife into allowing me to re-up for season tickets this season on the misguided hope that this team would be better. I didn't expect to be getting reamed for that in October, after just 8 games.
If this keeps up, it's going to be a long winter in the Dr. Fire house.
I have the exact same situation at the Long house.
Me, this summer: "But honey! We're going to turn it around next year! Look at all these moves! How can we walk away now?"
My wife, today: "I'm not going to the Detroit game tomorrow, so find one of your hockey friends. I couldn't care less about this team."
Reading this thread is like reading the obituary page. What a bummer this is.
I guess I have been so programmed by this team for letdown, I am now numb to the losses and horrible play. I will always be a fan and go see this team play, a 20 pack in the uppers isn't that big of an investment. I do feel for those who shell out big bucks for lower bowl season tix.
The good feeling I had after the Carter trade and Wiz signing are all but gone now. Knowing the D was still suspect and Mase having to prove himself again, kept my denial in check that this team was on the way up.
I think I felt lower after the 3-24 swoon, during the 09-10 season. The team was starting to tune out Hitch, and it all unraveled from there. There was a similar start last season, only to have another December to forget.

THIS...
I was feeling lower when things unravelled with Hitch. We made it to the playoffs and Mase was ROY the year before. There was a lot of optimism after that and then the floor caved in.
The difference now is even for tickets I've already bought I'm not that excited about it. My 11 yr old son doesn't want to go now. I'll go just to watch hockey rather than cheer for the Jackets; I'll drag one of my nieghbors and drink beers before.
Well, as a Leafs fan I don't know if it will comfort you to say we had literally the exact same start to the season two years ago, right down to the big offseason and star forward who couldn't play yet due to injury. Things look like they're turning out ok a few years later. Also I believe if you're going to miss the playoffs you might as well bottom out and go for #1, rather than finish 9th to 12th which is what I expected for the CBJ this year. It may hurt but you guys may look at this start as a blessing in disguise eventually
I would say you guys are also extremely fortunate that it wasn't a 2012 draft pick for Jeff Carter. Like, EXTREMELY fortunate.

I like this guy. Thanks man, empathy is always nice when you are on the outside looking in.
This thread, and the others like it, have caused me to change my avatar. Goodbye, Cam Atkinson (to Springfield), Hello Cliffjumper (from Cybertron Elite League)
Hm, you might be a little early in your assessment. It is October.
Even if we do rocket up the standings and end up with a mid-first round pick, I think we might end up with a better player than Sean Couturier ... this year's draft has some real nice gems all throughout.

I was pissed that I was going to miss a month and a half of hockey but it looks like I'm not missing anything at all. I wonder if they will win a game when I come back home. I should enjoy my vacation and not worry about hockey as it looks like the are done.
I have to thank last year at the end a lot for this season. With out last years ending, I might actually get emotional with the losses, but thankfully losses no longer eat at me like they used to, they lose I laugh and tell my girlfriend there goes another one, and then I move on with my night. Actually I'd like to thank my DVR for letting me fast forward through the games, because I'm at the point now where I'll watch the first 10 minutes if we don't score I'll fast forward until we do. When we finally score I'll watch from there until they get scored on again, and from there I just fast forward until I see that CBJ score, then etc.
I sincerely hope that the Ottawa game turns out to be rock-bottom for this team, and that they can start to claw their way back. Perhaps dawn is starting to break.
They may not make the playoffs now, but I want to see them play like they did last night on a consistent basis.
Hopefully, one day we can use this thread to remind us of the low times that make the future high times that much sweeter.
