Goligoski not fitting in?

Sharks fan here, wondering about the Stars:

I don't really see anybody mentioning Goligoski on this or any other thread. Is he simply starting off slow or is he not a part of the team's future. He's in a contract year, isn't he?

I'm surprised there isn't more talk about him from fans. He doesn't seem to be doing much, at least statistically - doesn't hit, doesn't shoot much, only goal was in the first game of the season... you'd think he'd be trying harder, and the Stars would want to see him do well, either to re-sign him or trade him.

Also, I see Ott is out. Hope it's not for long, he's fun -- a guy you hate to play against, but would love to have on your team!

Goose has definitely been struggling in Gully's new system. But if you look at more advanced statistics he leads the team in scoring chances. For whatever reason he's just not wracking up the points.

Golis been pretty good overall. He is way better defensively than he gets credit for. The offensive production hasnt been there so far this season and Dallas has struggled to score in general. The power play has been particularly bad. I think he still ends up leading the team in points among dmen.

If you wanna see a defenseman whos really struggling look Robidas' way. He has just 1 point has been pretty poor defensively, and is turning the puck over like noones business. The fact that he is still leading the team in ice time is a bit troubling.

And the fact Gully calls him part of the "backbone of the team."

if he plays the way he has so far, and plays 65+ games, Dallas will make the playoffs.

Honest question: Do they really track statistics like scoring chances for individual players? I figured it was just a general team statistic, and even then I've never seen it displayed on any site I've been to. Are these stats available on NHL.com or somewhere else?

Don't believe it's an official statistic.

The NHL does not track scoring chances. The Defending Big D blog has been doing game-by-game tracking though. It's a somewhat ambiguous definition of what constitutes a scoring chance (though most places that track them make them as concrete as possible), so the NHL doesn't ask their scorers to do it in real time.
