Really nice to see him doing good.. Playing like he did in the sel night in and night out. I'd probably ride him while he's hot and after that back to reality..
Sorry @sarampage ... Don't think Jacob Markstrom is going to visit the basement of the Alamo ... #FlaPanthers may now shop UFA Clemmensen
This! He's clearly shown he's ready. Whether he can hold up over an 82 game season, well that's why you have JT to pace the kid out. What a great performance last night!
Maybe I'm alone in thinking this but I wouldn't mind us starting Theodore against Ottawa and saving markstrom for the start against Buffalo. I feel that would give us a better chance to win both games rather than one or the other.

Nice perspective actually. Wouldn't mind it either way, but IMO Dineen is more of a day-to-day guy and doesn't think too much about other games than the very next one.
I really trust in both our goalies right now, although a bit more in Markström but still I trust them both. Haven't had this since Vokoun-Anderson tandem. Well, basically not since Clemmensen arrived. Coincidence?

That's a plausible scenario, but with a day between games and the distance between the two cities, it's also conceivable Markstrom gets both starts depending on how he looks. We don't want JT to get cold sitting on the bench, but this is a good problem to have at the moment.

What you says is completely reasonable but I think we keep rolling Markstrom until back to back games or a loss.

I understand wanting to keep riding the hot hand but I think it might be beneficial to slowly ease Markstrom into being the everyday goalie. It's a long season and you don't want to overwork him early.
I also think it might be to our advantage to start Markstrom against Buffalo since it is our second game against them in less then two weeks and would give them a different look than facing Theodore again

Again, completely reasonable. But on the other hand you could say give Markstrom the start against the weaker team which is more likely to result in a win to build his confidence and let the vet take on Buffalo. Or let Markstrom hopefully but a W up against Ottawa and ride the hot goalie with confidence into a big match up against Buffalo.
What a pleasure to have this debate!!!! Im for riding Markstrom, Im on record in saying by game 20 he'd be our starter. He will have bad outings and thats what theodore is there for.
Markstrom is showing that he has incredible potential. He still has a few things he needs to work on before being a legit #1. It's only a matter of time before teams get good scouting on him and exploit his weaknesses. I'm not saying he won't ever be a #1, he obviously will be, I'm just saying that right now he is still raw and still needs to refine his game.
I'm with SV on this. No one knows his style or knows much about him.
I'm still really torn on whether he stays. It's so tempting to keep him up here, but we need to see more from him. We need to see whether he can stay this consistent, or if people start to figure him out and he can't cope.
i don't think there's a right answer here. you can easily justify either scenario. both guys are not going to be on top of their game (well, marky's rebound control left a little to be desired last night) the entire season but for now, it's a good problem to have.

I agree 100%. We don't have to look any further than to our trading buddies, the Canucks, of last year. Schnieder was real good some games, but that didn't mean they played him until he lost. Lets ease him in a bit here folks. Let him get his legs underneath him in this league.
I also agree about starting him against the Sabres. Gives them a different look, since they seemed to have somewhat figured out Jose.

To be fair, the Canucks had a clear cut #1 who was making 7+million. Hard to keep that on the bench. Jose played very well against the Sabres so I don't know how much a different look is needed.
Good problem to have that we can hopefully discuss for a long time.

Well, to be fair, they have Roberto Luongo on their team.
i just don't see him going back down... starter????? maybe lets see after some more starts... trade Clemmesen, give him a chance to play up in the NHL... San Antonio doesn't need him with Leagace

Legace served his 2 week PTO and is no longer with San Antonio. But i still agree that Clemmer has no business in the AHL.
He has been playing really well. Every time I see him play I have been impressed. But the truth is he is young and inexperienced so it is likely that his form and play will not last for 80 games. However, we also have Jose which means that Markstrom doesn't need to be relied upon to play every game this season and that will make everything a lot easier on him as it will reduce the pressure a lot.
I was thinking before the season started that Markstrom could get about 30 games this season as I didn't see him staying in the AHL for long. Mainly because I was a bit unsure about how our two main goalies would perform and we would look for some way to freshen up the goal team by bringing him up. This hasn't happened as Jose has been very good but Markstrom has had his chance anyway and proven he is worth keeping up.
When the season started I was expecting to see Jose and Clemmensen share the starts and not really have a true number 1 goalie. Now I expect to see the same with Jose and Markstrom. They are both playing well at the moment and have different things they can bring to the team. It is a good situation to be in.
