Good at faceoffs, solid PK, saves Pleks some ice time giving him fresher legs. And finally sending down Palushaj (who should only be called up for top 9 play) and calling up Blunden for some toughness (not much....but more than Palushaj) and finally some semblance of a solid 4 line forward corps....but the biggest issue is on D. We need guys to box out the opposition and keep the lanes clear for the Franchise. Stafford wont do that....but he makes it easier to call someone up if needed, I think Mitera deserves a shot on the 3rd pairing.

At worst we get Nail Yakopov

I think this is a step in the right direction, albeit a small one. I had hoped Enqvist could fill the role of 4th line center but he fell short. Hopefully Nokelainen gives us that added dimension that we need.

I am also glad to see Blunden up with the Habs. He is a big body and even if he doesn't play a lot of minutes, at least he gives our opponents a different look. We have so many small forwards and Palushaj was just another one of them. He couldn't add a lot to the team as a 4th line grinder/checker while Blunden at least has some size.

With the trade we now have two bigger centers (Eller & Nokelainen) and two smaller skilled centers (Plekanec & Desharnais) for the next few games. That's a better combination than having three small centers and Eller has been playing well. And hopefully Nokelainen will be less passive than Enqvist.

If this works the questions becomes, what do you do with Gomez when he comes back?

Yes. But we got the best d-men we have signed right now in Montreal. Mietra, nor Stafford, nor any others in hamilton could make a real difference. Henry would be great if he could only skate !

Wow, some of you guys really just want to complain for the sake of complaining eh?

Nokelainen isn't going to save us. But he's better than Enqvist, he's better on faceoffs and he is tougher. Some of the xenophobia is ridiculous, he's not the energy guy a lot of you wanted but he's tougher than Steckel, the guy some of you won't stop talking about, and we gave up less to get him.

So yeah, it's a minor move but it didn't cost us any important assets.

Darche-Nokelainen-Blunden is a better 4th line, and some of you were acting like the 4th line is what was going to win us the cup.

Engqvist was a short term solution anyway. That is why Betts was taken from waivers. Unfortunately, the guy was injured.

Yes! Only because that is the only way to force Darche off the PP.

Anyone that sends Engqvist away, I'm happy.
How is Nokelainen compared to Betts ? or to Halpern ?

Hey buddy... you obviously feel that only drama-queens are "true" Hab fans but it is possible to be a fan and remain calm when things aren't going well. This team is better than their record shows and we have many good pieces in place so I don't want PG panicking like some on here and making a desperation move - except if it involves trading Gomez.

BTW, who's a more fairweather fan if you're the one who can't stand this team after a slow start?

Hope the fax number doesn't have a 5 or 6 in it since Habs players can't tell the difference between the two.

Where's Laraque when we need him?

I'm guessing when White comes back, he competes with Blunden..

I have no idea what happens with Gomez if he can't outplay Eller/Desharnais...

I would like to see Emelin given a chance on the PP. He can't possibly make it worse than it already is and he has had some success there in both junior and pro.

As far as the rest of the D goes, they all look like clones of each other with Gill being the only exception. They are reasonable (or better) skaters and reasonable passers (or better) with fairly good shots but all are undersized and that includes Subban and Markov. None play with a nasty edge to their game and that DOES include Gill.

A team can get away with two or three defensemen in that mold but having 5 or 6 has opposing forwards licking their chops.

Maybe to see if players in our system have the ability to replace (Engqvist). They gave him a chance and it failed.

When is the last time Gomez out played Eller let alone Desharnais, pre-season outstanding?

Both teams have to want to make a trade. PG can't phone the opposing GM and tell him that he HAS to make the trade NOW.
