I can't quite recall but I don't remember Hejda running out and signing with Columbus right on July 1. It was only after the whole Heatley crap, that he took that deal. I don't think our management team is going big game hunting like that anymore and pay no attention to other important matters.
Sure guys like Potter have to be aware of the market and how much they can make, but I think at the same time they are also aware of the team that gave them a chance. Afterall, Potter could run out and sign with a team that ends up like the Rangers and then were is he. He spent how many years trying to get a chance there and didn't get one. Now he finally found a team that is working out. If he's comfortable with the room + Renney, I think that would give us an advantage - maybe a small one but still an advantage.
