Coyle would have been a great Shark. Padding stats against the weak teams but invisible against the better teams. 20 e-bucks says he doesn't get more than a point against Canada and Finland.

How very original!

Have you watched him play? He was the best forward on the US team last year at the WJC as an 18 year old, he'll most likely be one of the top 2 again this year. He's a very, very good player.

I wonder if Don Hay will continue to use Freddie against top lines like he did with Finland. It'd be fun to see him vs Coyle. Sharks prospect vs ex-prospect!

Which other players would you expect to have multiple point games against those teams?

Sorry. I often forget my poor attempt at sarcasm is not easily detected on the internet, especially without this thing . I'm still a bit bitter the Sharks traded Coyle. I try to put him down as much as possible because it makes me feel better.

Now that that's out of the way. I still don't think he'll earn more than 1 point against Canada and Finland combined. And you can take that to the bank.

I'll chime in my bit about both Coyle and our buy Freddie:

On Coyle, I haven't seen any US games this WJC so far, but I watch(ed) a good amount of BU games and Coyle always looks like a man among boys. I think a worse defensively-version of David Backes is a decent comparison.

On Freddie, I've been very, very impressed by him thus far in the WJG. He played all night against the Granlunds and Pulkkinen, and looked great doing so. He won a ton of key faceoffs, played heavy minutes on the top PK unit, and showed great defensive awareness in front of his own goaltender. I can recall two incidents when he saved a goal with handy stick work. He can use his body to move forwards off the puck, but doesn't show physicality in the form of big hits. He was able to transition to part-time winger flawlessly when Smith-Pelly went down. He'll never be anything special offensively, but he's got strong board-play, decent vision, and is a relentless for-checker and a hard worker. I'm obviously no expert, but I believe he can be a quality defensive 3rd liner in the NHL.

If I go to the bank will they tell me which other players you expect to have multiple point games against those teams?

This.

We have never had any evidence that he sucks or would bust. At every level/event, he's been one of the best players on the team (if not the best).

Thank goodness we re-signed Burns or this trade would look BAD. As it is now, very fair for both sides.

Dont forget ex-Shark prospect Nick Bonnino playing for the Ducks now. Another one we had to trade away for loaners...

I was at the Frozen Four 2009 between BU,Vermont, Bemidji, and Miami. He made a fantastic move on a d-man in close while standing still to set up a goal against Vermont. I think he and Wingels made all-tournament team.

I'd rather have that than Travis Moen or Kent Huskins.

You'll have to post how correct you turn out to be because I'm not paying attention to the tourney at all...

Damn. I wanted to make the Simpsons Russia/USSR joke here, but there's not YT and the pics won't hotlink.

Assist for Freddie Hamilton on Canada's 2nd goal. He got stuffed on a partial break, but then has the presence of mind to wheel around, corral the rebound, and fire it cross-crease to Ryan Strome for the goal.

I'd argue that Palmieri was the best US forward last year.

That was a pretty sweet play all around.

yeah. Hell of a pass by the goalie to catch all the Czechs napping and find Freddie at the opposing blue line.

As unimpressive as Freddie has been at the training camp, I am glad he is showing some skill and upside at the WJC.
