BU has put together a task force to look into the 'culture' of their hockey program...ridiculous that it came to this but it had to be done.

Hm... That's really ridiculous that that has to be done. Get Nieto out of there fast as possible.

BC (MacLeod) ECAC playoff game on now NBCSN.

However, they've got a power outage at venue, so filler (NHL) programming.

They'll rejoin as soon as power is restored. (Middle of 1st; about 11 minutes left)

Freddie with a hat trick tonight for Niagra. DW will be happy.

Freddie scored said hat trick against the Ottawa 67s. DW will be furious.

I wish Freddie would've got the hatty Thursday night when I was at the game--- instead they got shutout haha. Good job on him tonight against the 67's, they're a good team.

Nieto just scored go-ahead goal with 15 minutes left in 3rd (answering 40 seconds after UNH tied it up). (BU down 0-1 in best of three series. They have to win tonight, or out of conference playoffs.)

Nieto has a goal and an assist in the playoffs so far. Sucks that they lost the last game in 2OT.

The deciding game is tomorrow

Is Nieto more of sniper or a playmaker kind of guy? I'm thinking the sharks need a goalscorer nowadays

With 50 active contracts, they cannot sign him to play this season.

Today's was more of a fast wrister.

Because they're at 50 they can't even sign him for next season until 7/1, which means he would be unlikely to sign an ATO to play for Worcester should he choose to turn pro when his BU season is over.

AIUI, you can sign SPC (ELS or otherwise) for 12-13 starting as early as 3/1/12. (See Coyle, Charlie signing)

So, I believe they can sign him.

But it might be that they'd want him to play with Worcester on an ATO, and then sign him (say in June) to the NHL SPC.

You cannot be over 50 active NHL contracts, and the only exemption is junior players under age 20. Nieto does not meet that exemption, so based on my reading of the CBA any contract he signs counts immediately.

And no agent with a brain cell in his head will let a player like Nieto play anywhere after BU without a maximum ELC in hand...so since SJ can't sign him that makes it very unlikely he would sign an ATO.

The Wild could sign Coyle because they were under the 50 contract limit.

If it doesn't start until 12-13, it wouldn't be an active contract.

I didn't really mean to play this year but I meant in the future. It seems like there's gonna be a lot of turnover in the non SJ contracts this summer and I don't see why DW wouldn't give Nieto what he's worth.

Yes, it would be.

In the definition section of the CBA, under "reserve list"

Quote:
"Reserve List" means the list of all Players to whom a Club has rights including all Unsigned Draft Choices, all Players signed to an SPC (whether or not currently playing in the NHL), and all Players who have signed an SPC but who have subsequently been returned to Juniors. A Club may have on its Reserve List, at any one time, not more than 90 Players, which shall include the following:
(a) Not more than 50 Players signed to an SPC and not less than 24 Players
and 3 goalkeepers under an SPC. Age 18 and age 19 Players who were returned to
Juniors, and who have not played 11 NHL Games in one season, shall be exempt from
inclusion in the 50 Player limit.

Any Club violating this provision shall be liable to loss of draft choices as
determined by the Commissioner.
(b) Unsigned Draft Choices.
If someone can post a section of the CBA that shows contracts signed for next season signed during this league year don't count right now I'd love to see it it.

Hamilton posted 2 assists in the Ice Dogs 5-2 win over the Frontenacs - the Ice Dogs can clinch the Eastern Conference titls with a win on Thursday.

Hamilton is currently 9th in OHL scoring, not sure if the list is 'real time' or not...if it's not real time those 2 points will move him up the rankings.

BU just beat UNH in double OT...Nieto had 1 assist, their goalie made somewhere around 68 saves.

Wowza. That's impressive. So that means that BU is going further in the playoffs, eh?

Double OT again. 5-4 game. Kind of disappointing Nieto only got 1 point though. Chaisson got 4.

We need their goalie!

That means BU progresses? Must have been a tight series, 3 game series, 2 lots of double OT and a 1 goal game.

Chiasson is awesome. I'm hugely disappointed that he's a Dallas prospect.

But Nieto is playing with on the second-line with some not-so-good linemates, and he put up a team-high 7 shots, so I presume he did well.

Also, incidentally, Scott Pavelski plays for UNH.
