By the sounds of it, he's gonna take the college route. So it's probably 3-5 years but seems like he's gonna be a good one.

2016 graduating class. 4 years max before he goes pro (assuming he wants to continue playing).

He will be too good to spend 3 years there, much less 4.

But he may pull out the college card and play a full four years.

Time will tell.

But maybe I'll get to see him on TV if he's @ WJC tourney.

I wonder if theNHL will close the "Justin Schultz" loophole inthe next CBA?
If not, I think Kuraly could be a ufa after 3 years of college. Hopefully Sharks sign him after two more years.

Yes, I think the NHL will plan to close that loophole.

However, it may or may not apply to him (usually whenever player is drafted whatever CBA is in effect impacts the ELS contract), unless there is specific wording in the CBA that puts things in effect "retroactively" (IOW, the "change overs")

But, the Sharks are considered to be a much better team (positionally/on the ice) than Anaheim, so he may want to sign with the Sharks.

I'd like to see some more Sharks fans' opinions in that thread I started up. Don't bother looking at the first page or two the discussion kinda changed and so did the trade. Some Wings fans seem to think our prospect pool and farm system is poop and I'd like to see some other Sharks fans that know more about that than I do tell them otherwise.

It is poop. One of the worst in the league, easy. Might be THE worst but I'm a homer.

Eh, I normally don't care for ranking farm systems in any sport. It's all about who has the sexiest names and not who ends up with the better players. The Sharks historically have drafted well in later rounds and have been one of the top teams the past decade yet have always been ranked low when it comes to their farm. Now for a team that ranks highly among homegrown talent on the roster...it doesn't add up.

San Jose has some good talent in their system so it doesn't bother me too much when other teams' fan want to rag on it because it was ranked last by Hockey's Future ( ).

Interview with Kuraly the night before the Combine before he was drafted in 2011. Sounds like a really smart, mature, well-adjusted guy.

When you think about Sharks prospects, it's always good to keep in mind how well they draft in the later rounds. And the later round picks never get the hype that is necessary to bounce to the top spots on HF's team rankings.

This, I thought, was a great blast from the past, and it's good to see so many of the top20 listed to make it to the NHL, with quite a few becoming impact players, too: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/article...0_prospects-5/

ESPN bit on the WJC camps and lead-up tourneys, including a bit on Kuraly (written by ex-Thrashers scout Grant Sonier, which explains the comments in the 3rd paragraph):

http://insider.espn.go.com/nhl/blog/...ss-lake-placid

Quote:
Meanwhile, Sean Kuraly (San Jose Sharks, 2011) is emerging as a diamond in the rough.

"Whatever round this kid was taken in, it should have been the first," one scout said of Kuraly, selected 133rd overall in the fifth round.

Kuraly is a player I know very well -- I wanted our staff in Atlanta to give him much more attention in his draft year. He is strong, can skate and has displayed a never-give-up attitude every time I have watched him. The thing that is surprising to some is he is now producing offensively. In the USHL he put up very modest numbers in his draft year, and I think teams shied away from him because of his lack of production. Kuraly is causing many to rethink the way they look at players. At this age, if a player has at least one NHL quality, he has a chance. And Kuraly seems to be seizing his.

Yeah you have to give props to our staff. Will he be in San Jose for rookie camp or whatever the hell we have where all the prospects play?

I'm gonna say that Detroit's prospect system gets too much attention for their low round picks while ours don''t.

Detroit: Oh this kid they drafted must be a hidden gem

San Jose: What? They don't have any propects

Probably because Datsyuk and Zetterberg are way better than Pavelski and Demers.

Any reason for that? Isn't it how we "discovered" Wingels and Sgarbossa?

Yeah, the Red Wings are so good at drafting, that the most recent draft pick to make the team full-time is Darren Helm in 2005. The most recent Wings draft pick to make the NHL was Brendan Smith for 14 games last season after being drafted in the first round in 2007. In the time that the Wings waited for Smith, we've iced Wingels, Demers, Couture, and Braun.

Datsyuk and Zetterberg were over ten years ago. The last impact player the Wings drafted was Johan Franzen.
