We are not taking shots...

Tonight.. 19 shots on goal. That's why we lost

Versus Vancouver, 19 shots on goal, Hank stole that game and luongo choked

Versus the ducks, a pathetic 15 sog, that's 1 shot per 4 minutes!

I don't like using sog as a stat to show how well a team performed for the night (in fact I think on average the winning team gets outshot), but 20 sog is just garbage.

Players aren't being decisive enough. They're trying to be too precise. We need to fire everything on goal and start crashing the net for rebounds. Our team is not built for making the perfect play, but rather for getting to loose pucks and burying some garbage goals.

I think it's a combination of them missing the net a lot coupled with the forwards overpassing and trying to get a perfect scoring opportunity. We also really don't have the puck for long stretches in games so that doesn't help either.

Despite the fact that many of those fans sound like morons, the OP has a valid point. The forwards on our roster are very gritty, they aren't afraid to crash the net and get to loose pucks. Every line besides the first should have the intention of getting the puck in the zone, firing it at the net and looking for a deflection/rebound.

Something else that I've noticed is that our defensemen don't shoot nearly enough. This has been a problem over the last few seasons, and this year is no exception. In the new NHL, having active defensemen in the offensive is a very powerful weapon (see Philly before their collapse last season). Especially with a gritty team like ours, getting the defensemen involved in the offense becomes even more important.

EDIT- This also all starts by HITTING the net when given the opportunity.

It's a combination of missing the net and not creating shooting lanes in the offensive zone.

During the few shifts that this team has had a strong forecheck going in the offensive zone, the entire shift was spent cycling around the perimeter -- thus, no good shots, and no legitimate offensive chances. Every player was to the outside, there was maybe one player even near the front of the net or the slot, ready to shoot.

This is the issue. Look at Richards -- when he has space to make a pass from behind the net or near the half-boards, there is no one to pass too who is in a prime scoring position -- these players can't expect the space just to open up for them without any type of initiation. They need to create their own space by driving to the net, making your mark in the slot, and pressuring the "collapsing" system teams have been playing against us.

Hard to shoot when you don't have the puck.

Basically. We must have missed the net a dozen times last night and I easily counted 5-6 shots blocked by Edmonton, another handful deflected wide or out of play and another 5 or so that we blocked ourselves. We easily ATTEMPTED 35-40 shots. We just only put 19 on net. THAT is a problem.

The voice of common sense. Look how much time opposing teams are spending in our zone dominating us. Do you expect the Rangers to just fling the puck from the other side of the ice?

Corey Potter is better than anyone on our bottom 2 defense pairings right now. He could've used him on the powerplay with that booming slap shot as well.

the big problem is we can get the puck out of our zone. The D to soft right now,
Dan G and Ryan M are doing good , but we need help.
Can't wait for Staal and Sauer back
Iam sure when those 2 are back the team will look hell of alot better
