Currently there's 5 swedes in the top 10 of the most assists, and two of them are D's

Loui Eriksson is the current leader in +/-, and Markström/Enroth has 95 and 94 in save percentages. Things are looking good!

What's wrong with Patrik Berglund? This season was supposed to be his major breakthrough, at least many thought so (including me) after dominating performance at last year's World Championships. Anyone watched his games?

Watched some blues games, he looks very franzen-like, mostly taking it easy but stepping up in the end of the games. The perfect player for national teams

Only seem one game with the Blues this season (against Leafs) and Berglund looked pretty good then. Perhaps a bit sluggish and not very powerful. Steen however impressed me a lot. Looks stronger and more active all over the ice then last time I saw him. He have really improved since his move. He always had streaks of good games for the Leafs but seeing as he was still young he could be pretty inconsistent. Was still a big mistake to trade him away imo.

Gunnarsson have really improved this season for the Leafs.

It always feels like Berglund is ready to break out but he never does.

Huselius is reportedly skating without contact, and should be getting ready in 2-3 weeks.

Away to a super-motivated Pens team in Crosby's return after a year long absence. For the Islanders.

Not the easiest game to make your first NHL start.

Huge breakdown or a major upset.
Zero expectations though. Go Nilsson!

Nilsson was alright and made some good saves. On a normal team in a normal game that was a >.900 performance. Only bad goal was the last, seemed to go right through him and he was cheating away from his post.

NY Rangers have recalled Carl Hagelin. He will be the 63rd swede to play in NHL this season, some kind of record?

63 is the record set last year, Öhlund and Huselius will play this season so there will be a new record this year.

Nice to see the record be broken but lots of the swedes have been fringe players this season, the list of swedish NHL-players that have a important role for their team is a lot shorter. Overall there is not so many swedes that produces well this year.

I find it surprising that 63 is the record for swedes in the NHL. I am not very familiar with Swedish hockey, but does some high-end swedish talent elect to stay in Sweden and play in the Elitserien? I don't know if there is anyone like the Sedin's, Karlsson or Backstrom playing pro in Sweden.

There's definitely no Bäckström or Sedin in the SEL, but quite a lot of Bottom 6 talent tend to not go over, or rather.. they don't really fill a need since there are a ton of guys like that in NA already.

Also there are the oldies who were late-bloomers and are too old to be interesting for NHL teams or came back from NA to finish their careers at home.. these are often the best players in the league.

There has always been some pretty good swedes that stays in Europe to play in SEL (and more recently KHL). The Jönsson brothers Kenny and Jörgen was excellent players that chosed to spend a big chunck of their careers in Sweden for example.

The best swedes in Europe are either players coming back from NA, latebloomers that often lack some element of the game (like size, physicality or speed) or youngsters that will end up in NA sooner or later.

A good example is Tony Mårtensson and Mattias Weinhandl, they both had a shot in NA and didn't manage to become NHL-players. They are way better players now, but since they are old they are not so interesting for NHL-teams and they have a great salary in Europe so they are not inclined to grind it out in AHL to earn a new shot of playing in NHL.

Jörgen Jönsson would have been an ordinary top 6 in any NHL team, but he is kind of an exception.

Current top 3 assists are swedes, that's pretty cool. We don't have that many pure goalscorers though, I guess it's just Franzén and Hörnqvist who are that kind of players.
