Secondly, I was watching parts of the OHL Cup tournament yesterday, Toronto Marlies vs. Mississauga Rebels....and I just gotta say, this Josh Ho-Sang kid looked like an absolute beauty... He was head and shoulders above the rest of the competition...

I mean he was flying on the ice, going end-to-end with the puck, and then dishing out beautiful passes in the offensive zone with relative ease play after play!

Could be the next Crosby.. (not likely, but one can only hope).
Exceptional status was the rule created for John Tavares that allowed exceptional players to enter the OHL draft a year before they normally would be able to (so at 15 instead of 16). Aaron Ekblad this year is the only one since Tavares to receive the status and get to play in the OHL a year early. John McFarland applied but was denied. Connor McDavid, Ho-Sang's teammate is a '97 applying for exceptional status next year. As a '96 Ho-Sang is in his regular draft year.

Interesting... here I was excited but he's just another Paul Kariya (sort of another vague Korea reference).

No doubt the kid is very, very skilled, but he is even better when he uses his teammates. I seen him in the quarterfinal and semifinal Saturday and he was great, passed well and he was no doubt the top 96 player around (McKeown is right there to though). However, earlier in the tournament and during GTHL playoffs when he was 'Mr. Do-it-myself' he wasn't near as good and he wasn't even able to do everything himself. When he is utilizing his teammates, he is one of the best, no doubt! I don't like comparing or bashing of other players in order to bring up another's stock so I won't do that right now, but Ho-Sang has 2 different sides to his game and in order for him to be effective at the next level, he will need to use his teammates and as long as he does this, there is no reason to believe that he cannot be a special player! Just my humble opinion.

So now that he went #5 overall... What does that say about him as a player? Wasn't he touted to be the consensus #2 overall behind McDavid or am I just out of touch with OHL hockey?

Exciting to see him go to Windsor, that team has done great things to develop players.

I heard the Greyhounds wanted to draft him at #4 but he made it very clear that he didnt want to play there, at least that's what I heard. Not sure why he even dropped as far as 4, I thought the same as you and he was the consensus #2.

Oh so it was player politics that did that?

I'm interested... Maybe Tiger or someone who follows MM hockey pretty close knows why.

why did he drop?

was he not going to report to the other clubs?

A little while ago before the emergence of Connor McDavid he was touted 1st overall pick for sure.

Seems some aren't a fan of his supposed attitude, and that he'll probably only be in the OHL 2 years had something to do with it.

In Kingston, the Frontenacs' management kept denying the rumor that Ho-Sang wouldn't report. But they ended up taking defenseman Roland McKeown instead.

So I don't know whether that was due to the rumors about Ho-Sang not reporting, or because they legitimately wanted a defenseman and thought McKeown was the BPA at the 2nd overall spot.

I heard them saying something on Sportsnet the other day with McDavid getting exceptional player status that odds were Ho-Sang would go to Windsor because he wouldn't go to any of the other teams before Windsor picked.

I was simply amazed by the kid but I've read he needs to work on his game in his own zone, could be why he dropped to 5th

He was definitely the 2nd best player available and the best '96 in the entire draft. While he had a poor last month of the season, he's still proven that he's head and shoulders above the entire '96 class (which is very strong).

GMs over-thinking/afraid he wouldn't report, Kingston drafting for need, (probably) a deal in place with Windsor are all reasons why he went #5. He's by no means the 5th best player, just like Seguin wasn't the 9th best player back in '08. He'll be dynamite for the Spitfires and essential to their 2014 run.

He'll excel in Windsor, I'm by no means a Spitfires fan but he couldn't have gone to a better place, he'll flourish there. Can't wait to see him play there next year.

Made a decent debut tonight. Windsor lost in a 6-1 blowout...but Ho-Sang looked strong and picked up a point.

2 assists, first one was a beautiful back hander right to Maletta. Still no goals other than the one shootout goal

Is he getting top six minutes or no?
Haven't really followed the Spits at all.

After seeing him play live in minor midget a whopping one time, I was blown away by his puck skills.
Just off the charts good; it's like he was born with a stick in his hands.
I hope he can transfer it to the OHL and NHL.

Been playing on the third, as a winger this season, which suits his game a lot better. But he has shown flashes and some nifty puck skills, still adjusting though but thats expected with any young player.

Saw him for the first time today against the Sting and thought he played fantastic. Windsor's best player by far.

The kid is stupid fast and obviously has great hands. He appears to still be figuring the league out and is kind of all over the place out there (not necessarily in a good way) but when he figures it out watch out.
