Canucks Lineup Structure While in Full Swing?

The Canucks have a huge opportunity to shake up their line-ups with their new addition (Booth) and returning injured players.

Just wondering what you think our lineup will look like with the return of Raymond in November, alongside Rome and Pinnizotto. We have both Offensive and Defensive depth that can be very beneficial to us.

Personally, I think we are going to send Hodgson down to the minors to avoid Aaron Rome having to be waived with the return of Raymond.

Then, our wing positions on the third and fourth line could be a wealth of combinations. Furthermore, we have 8 or 9 defenders that will most likely see some ice time this season. I'm not sure of the numbers entirely due to the Canucks interest in Rookie Defenceman, Kevin Connaughton.

Here's what I think our lines will look like with the projected return of our players.

Offense:

1st: Sedin's and Burrows
2nd: Booth, Kesler, Higgins
3rd: Malhotra, Hansen, Raymond
4th: Weise, Lapierre, Pinnizotto

Missing players: Hodgson, Volpatti, Ebbett

Defense:

1st Pair: Bieksa, Ballard
2nd Pair: Hamhuis, Edler
3rd Pair: Alberts, Salo

Defense sub-ins: Rome, Tanev, Connaughton

Goalie:

Roberto Luongo, Cory Schneider

Missing: Lakk, Climie(?)

Thoughts? Predictions? Discussions?

Not sure if I think your fourth line will work out. With the grit the canucks are trying to achieve this year. I don't think Malhotra fits, but maybe that's just me.

I predict the following:

Sulzer waived when Rome comes back.

Ebbet waived when Pinizzotto comes back.

Volpatti waived when Raymond comes back.

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Booth-Kesler-Higgins
Raymond-Hodgson-Hansen
Malhotra-Lapierre-Weise
Pinizzotto

Hamhuis-Edler
Ballard-Bieksa
Alberts-Salo
Rome

D. Sedin - H. Sedin - Burrows
Booth - Kesler - Higgins
Raymond - Hodgson - Hansen
Lapierre - Malhotra - Weise

Is what I would do...

FORWARDS
Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($2.000m)
David Booth ($4.250m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / Chris Higgins ($1.900m)
Mason Raymond ($2.550m) / Cody Hodgson ($1.666m) / Manny Malhotra ($2.500m)
Steve Pinizzotto ($0.600m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.000m) / Jannik Hansen ($1.350m)
Aaron Volpatti ($0.612m) / Dale Weise ($0.605m)

DEFENSEMEN
Alexander Edler ($3.250m) / Sami Salo ($2.000m)
Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m)
Aaron Rome ($0.750m) / Keith Ballard ($4.200m)
Andrew Alberts ($1.225m)

GOALTENDERS
Roberto Luongo ($5.333m) / Cory Schneider ($0.900m)

PAYROLL: $62,992,499

That's a 23 man roster based on the teams current and past use of players. Switch Ebbert and Volpatti if you want or drop Volpatti and go with 22.

Flip the last two around. Finesse guy gone to make room for another finesse guy, same thing for the two tough guys.

Possible and plausible. However, I see AV keeping Volpatti around to push Pinner for the 4th line spot before he keeps Ebbett to push Hodgson for the 3rd line spot.

Either way works though.

I don't understand why everyone around here has such a rager for Pinizzotto, a 27 yo who hasn't played a single game in the NHL yet. Decent AHL stat line for sure but I don't even put him in front of Volpatti.

Wasn't aware that everyone around here has a rager for Pinizzotto. That makes me somewhat uncomfortable.

That said, I watched his play in the pre-season. I watched Volpatti's play in the pre-season.

Personally, I thought Pinizzotto was far more effective than Volpatti in the pre-season and therefore have him in my projected line-up. Rager not included.

I was fairly impressed with Pinozzotto in the pre-season. He's a step up from Volpatti from what I've seen for the fourth line. The intriguing thing is how supposedly about 7 teams were after him to sign with them. Obviously other GM's are intrigued as well. He might be a bit of a late bloomer.

Gotta keep up the Italian quotient after Luongo is gone.

sedins+burrows
booth/kesler/higgins
hansen/coho *maybe minors*/raymond but i think he'll get traded for something
you want your bottom 6 to be bigger and tougher. not soft.
4th line=lappy/manny/pinno

I don't know how strong some of the substances getting smoked in Vancouver are but if anyone thinks that Raymond is coming back and ready to make an impact any time before Christmas you're dreaming. He could be cleared for contact in November sure but with no training camp and coming off a serious back injury I doubt we'll even see the Raymond we were *****ing about last year let alone the one that wowed us two years ago. I don't expect much at all from Raymond this season.

meh, not sure if I agree with your take on Raymond.

Burrows makes the Sedin's gritty enough to get buy but the importance of having a gritty tough bottom six was only such an issue in the past because our top 6 was buttery soft. We can protect a couple 'softer' guys in the line up with our entire second line as it is.

There hasn't been one bad line up suggestion in this thread yet. And the truth is most of them may even get at least a look. Nice having that depth.

And depending on what they do with their ice time the players themselves will also have a say as to who plays where.

Example... If Cody wants to show what he can do in his natural position rather than having to convert to wing, he better make the most of his time because there are guys like LaPierre, Malholtra and to a lesser extent Ebbett that can push him further down the line up and possibly to the AHL. I give him maybe a C for his short audition on the second. He'll have to do better than that to permanently stick on the third.

Which begs the question, would you rather have Cody slowly adapting to the NHL game on the fourth line with a limited role and ice time; or should he continue developing in the AHL playing big minutes and being a go to guy?

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Booth Kesler Raymond
Higgins Hodgson Hansen
Maholtra Lapierre Bitz
Pinizzotto

Edler Salo
Hamhuis Bieksa
Ballard Tanev

Higgins is more comfortable on the right side and a line of Booth Kes Raymond is impressive.

Or just for kicks

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Booth Schroeder Kesler
Higgins Hodgson Raymond
Maholtra Lapierre Hansen

Which is why the question was when then lineup is full swing and not next week.
