FWIW, the latest Twitter release by the Flyers (within the last 10 minutes):

GM Paul Holmgren on Chris Pronger: "Chris Pronger saw Dr. Goldman again today. He continues to progress nicely."

^ Holmgren was scouting yesterday and probably joined the team in Montreal. There could be a further update at some point from the arena.

Lol...good one. Needed that. Just worried. Its hard to trust the flyers medical staff and management when it comes to injuries...but not limited to the flyers obviously.

Giroux. No one is expected to be named captain in his place.

After this game, maybe Walker is waived and Gustafsson is called up. Lavy doesn't appear to trust Walker at all out there, so might as well give someone else a shot at it. We're pretty ****ed capwise though, so I don't think we can call up someone unless we're clearing space somehow. My bet would be that Walker stays on the roster though, and we try to ride it out until Pronger returns.

The Flyers have no cap space so they can't afford a call up unless they send Walker to the Phantoms.

I don't think Pronger had complete loss, he complained of blurred vision and then a later report said his perception improved.
I know images weren't taken but in terms of video during interviews on him giving updates on how he's doing. I only saw the video clips when Berard was interviewed a few days after @ 1st.

I'm so sorry that came out so wrong, I just want to compare it to Berard's to see if it's just as bad as his was. I feel like scum now. sorry guys.

Berard's lost his vision therefore his eye got noticeably smaller.

oh, thank god, Pronger didn't have complete loss.

No need to apologize. I doubt the media was given an opportunity to address the topic directly with Pronger. He was seen by the medical staff privately and then likely headed home (though a radio station said he went to a local hospital, not confirmed). The media asked some of the players post-game and responses were provided verbally.

Probably not. Considering the Flyers only have 3 games between November 5-13, they have a favorable schedule to rest him. He'll probably miss another 6 games or so.

Thursday's (October 27) update:

Quote:
Meanwhile, Chris Pronger (eye injury) continues to recover at home. He was examined again by Dr. Stephen Goldman on Thursday and general manager Paul Holmgren issued the following statement: "He continues to improve daily. Chris will start light exercise on the weekend.''

Sorry if it's a dumb question but what does he mean "light exercises" does he mean, skating around the rink with the puck, shooting the puck, taking passes?

What percentage does he have back in his eye, did the Dr.'s say?

The doctors didn't release any specifics, today is the last day of four in which Pronger will be seen.

Light exercise generally means walking the treadmill or riding a stationary bike . Skating around the rink and hockey stuff is probably what he'll be doing when he rejoins the team which is what was meant by the first statement of 2-to-3 weeks. That's more "practice" than exercising. It's highly unlikely he will go straight to playing without some practice.

oh, ok. No doubt he'll practise before playing games.

I really don't think is 2-3 weeks is enough time for him to heal 100%, so by the 3rd week he is practising with a visor on as they are saying he will.

I mean it's an eye injury, Sundin was out for a few months before he even got into practising with the Leafs, Berard never played a game for the Leafs after that.

We don't want to rush anything. take the time to heal 100% how ever long that may be. Pronger's eye slight now & in the future is far more important then any game.

MiamiScreamingEagles, can you please sticky this.

VIDEO -- http://video.flyers.nhl.com/videocen...id=DL|PHI|home

Progress?

“That’s the eye doctor’s job to see that progress,” Pronger said during an interview between periods Saturday night. “I don’t think it’s stuff you can see cosmetically just looking at me. It’s more stuff inside, swelling and bleeding and what not.”

He said only the doctor – team ophthalmologist Stephen Goldman - knows when he’ll return to the ice.

Pronger took a stick to the right eye from Toronto’s Mikhail Grabovski on Oct. 24. Grabovski was taking a shot when his swing motion caught Pronger in the face with the flat part of the stick blade.

“Usually, when your head goes numb, it’s a sign something’s wrong,” Pronger said, admitting he was uncertain about the full extent of his injury when it happened.

“I couldn’t see so I didn’t know what was going on.”

Do you feel lucky [it wasn’t worse]?

“Do you feel lucky, punk?” Pronger replied smiling, using the classic Clint Eastwood line from Dirty Harry. “Obviously, it could have been a lot worse. I don’t know if I feel lucky getting hit, but it certainly could have been a lot worse. We have seen a lot worse.”

When a rather large reporter asked how his vision was, Pronger replied, “Well, I can see you. I see a large shape.”

Getting serious, he added, “It’s still a little blurry because of the eye drops and things I have to take to relieve the pressure [on the eye].”

How does this incident not make everyone realize just how important visors are? This is hockey, it's a high paced game and stupid injuries can happen and happen very easily. Eye sight is very important to not just the game but life, there is no need to lose your eye sight because there's a stupid thought going around that wearing a visor makes you less of a player.

Sorry but this issue infuriates me in hockey and I have to say something lol

Excellent post. I've been saying the same thing for years.

You can thank stupid Don Cherry for that one (thought going around that wearing a visor makes you less of a player) I can't wait til he retires, I can't stand him!!
