I was very disappointed in Pronger's response when the reporter asked.

Have you thought of wearing one 5-10 minutes each day just to get used it to?

“I wear sun glasses, that’s probably pretty good,” he said with a smile.

How can Pronger take this so lightly. Grr!!

For how the stick came up into Pronger's face, I'm not convinced a visor would have helped. Not that I think players shouldn't wear them, just in this instance it seems as though the stick would have probably still clipped him where it did.

what's really puzzling is that they put Schenn on IR almost instantly yet they don't with Pronger and he's out for 2 - 3 weeks himslf. can someone clarify this?

LTIR = 24 days minimum. Pronger may only miss 2 weeks, but they wouldn't be able to use him still if he was placed till after 24 days.

I get that, but was not referring to LTIR just standard IR. we place Reimer on IR and he could be back this week for example.

The stick came up from the side and, judging from the video from last night, hit his nose while scratching around the eye.
That would've been 100% prevented by a visor.

It's because they don't like Schenn one bit and want to trade him for Kadri. Even if they have to add a good-decent prospect.

I would argue that very soon we will see a majority of players wearing visors, not because the league mandates it, but because it is common sense.

It's because Schenn's injury will take 4 to 6 weeks to heal. Therefore, you're looking at 28 to 42 days to heal. Pronger's injury, on the other hand, is only going to take 2 to 3 weeks. You're looking at 14 to 21 days. In order to qualify for Long Term Injury, you have to miss at least 24 days with the injury. Pronger won't miss the 24 day mark that is required for LTIR.

Basically the confidence and bravado that he plays with. Pronger is being Pronger.

Pronger has been placed on IR corresponding to the other roster moves of the day (placed within the injury report thread).

We already see the majority wearing visors as nearly 2/3rds league wide wear them.

Any indication if this is because the injury is more serious than originally expected, or was this just to make room for other guys?

Make room for other players is more likely. It was done retroactive to last Tuesday. By rule he has to miss seven days, so, in essence, time served.

The NHL rule:

Quote:
A player who has an injury that renders him physically unable to play for a minimum of seven days after that date of the injury can be placed on the Club's Injured Reserve List. Once a player is placed on the list, the Club may replace said player on its NHL roster with another player. All determinations that a player has suffered an injury warranting injured reserve status must be made by the Club's medical staff and in accordance with the Club's medical standards.

If a doctor clears Pronger today, he might be able to skate this week separate from the team and perhaps with the team later in the week. That is depending on what the doctor suggests.

Phew. I was worried maybe some tests came back worse than expected or something like that.

I suppose there's no word on how his vision is doing? Any lingering blurriness?

I think if I saw correctly the only blurriness he has is coming from the medicine they put in his eye. Holmgren said he was out of danger last Friday. Just the healing process I think now

I have not heard anything as of yet. But if he had issues with his vision that were not related to his medications then I suspect there would have been some alarm bells going off.

The Philadelphia Flyers made several roster moves today in preparation for their game with the Buffalo Sabres tomorrow night. Captain Chris Pronger, who is still recovering from an eye injury he sustained over a week ago when struck by the stick of Mikhail Grabovski in a 5-2 Flyers’ win, was placed on injured reserve. Forwards Harry Zolnierczyk and Ben Holmstrom were recalled from the Adirondack Phantoms of the AHL, and practiced with the Flyers this morning before the team left for Buffalo.

For the first time since he injured his right eye, Chris Pronger skated Wednesday in Voorhees. He will also skate tomorrow and, if he gets a good report from the eye doctor on Friday, he will practice with the team Friday or Saturday, GM Paul Holmgren said.
