Wouldn't mind helping out the Habs or Blue Jackets right now, we have a glut of defenceman once Carkner comes back. We need to facilitate a trade soon, unless we send down Rundblad. Maybe time to finally facilitate a Brian Lee trade, don't think he will be extended a contract this year. Could we get the Habs or Jackets to pay a 4th for Lee?

easily imo.

That guy is a solid blueliner....unfortunately he just doesn't seem to fit into our plans.

My guess is that Kuba will be the first defenceman traded if Murray has his way otherwise I would agree that Lee would be a close second. I`m not a fan of Kostitsyn but in terms of close to even salary & getting a forward for a defencman this works. I don`t think there is a problem with trading within your division when you are rebuilding & it`s Kuba we are talking about, right.

I don`t really see a deal with Columbus unless they are willing to trade Brassard for Kuba which I doubt, Huselius IMO is too old for a rebuilding team to consider. Doesn`t the NYR also need a veteran defenceman & there is that association with Torts & Kuba from Tampa. I still like Wolski but it likely take more than Kuba to get him, maybe Foligno too. He has only played one game this yr & has no pts, is he injured.

To Montreal: Filip Kuba ($3.7 mil)
To Ottawa: Andrei Kostitsyn ($3.25 mil) - it`s rumoured that Montreal would trade him for a defenceman.

What about moving, dare I say it, Matt Carkner? Or is he too big of a "community guy" to be moved.

Spezza sucks! Doan will be a Canuck! Neil is worth a 7th at most IMHO

Just kidding, seriously though, I know exactly what that's like. Last season in an "expansion draft" thread I named Jannik Hansen as one of our untouchables and Oiler trolls were out in full force. I would do a 2nd on him, but I'd have to think long and hard on upping it to a 1st. I'd imagine Gillis would feel the same way.

I'd be very interested in taking a chance on a crippled Raymond.....if he comes back and plays fairly close to the level he was at before the injury...he'd be an ideal LWer for Zibanejad.

I'd like to pursue Raymond. But what fits Vancouver's needs?

Feels like Lee's been our spare defenceman in waiting since we drafted him, I never really heard anything about him complaining about it and good on him for that. I wouldnt mind sending him to a place where he could get a second chance as a full-timer, new scenery and all that. Id gladly do that kind of deal.

As for Kuba, his deal makes it almost like he has/had negative trade value but if we can capitalize on his good statistical game the other night while other GMs might be a bit more impressed then Id be very interested in what we could get

Vancouver needs tough gritty bottom 6ers (Neil), a #4/5 stay at home defender (like Scott Hannan) as well as close to NHL ready defensive prospects, preferably waiver exempt.

FORWARDS
Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($2.000m)
Chris Higgins ($1.900m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / David Booth ($4.250m)
Mason Raymond ($2.500m) / Cody Hodgson ($1.666m) / Manny Malhotra ($2.500m)
Chris Neil ($2.000m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.000m) / Jannik Hansen ($1.350m)
/ Dale Weise ($0.605m)

DEFENSEMEN
Alexander Edler ($3.250m) / Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m)
Keith Ballard ($4.200m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m)
Andrew Alberts ($1.225m) / Sami Salo ($2.000m)
Aaron Rome ($0.750m)

GOALTENDERS
Roberto Luongo ($5.333m) / Cory Schneider ($0.900m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,729,999; BONUSES: $850,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $570,001

Gillis won't move Raymond yet, but if the rumours about Kyle Turris coming home then he could be moved.

Oh God no, only reason he is number three on the move list for defenceman is that since he has not played his value is minimal. I know we are only eight games in but I would not mind making a deal or two while there are still some free agent guys left out there. Depth guys always fetch a pick at the deadline. Would be a huge fan of moving Winchester and Lee out within the next six weeks and bringing in Chris Clark (Would rather keep a couple guys in minors right now instead of a call to the big team, wait till after deadline) who could be moved at the deadline for another pick.

I'd offer Nick Foligno and Patrick Weircioch for Raymond+ a 2nd rounder...

Gonna pass on Weirloch + Foligno, Neil would likely be the player that's targeted

People want to give up something for Raymond before we know if he can get healthy again?

Or (serious question) has he made progress that I am not aware of?

that's fine, just let all the other Nuck fans dreaming having one of Neil or Doan(if not both) in their lineups..that they just mean too much to their respective teams to be dealt for nothing less then overpayment.

He's skating and should be playing by late November

We've discussed Doan with PHX fans on the PHX board and they have agreed that, if, at the trade deadline, they're out of contention and the ownership saga is nowhere near resolved that most of them would be fine doing a Doan for Schneider trade to give him a good chance at winning a cup.

I'd have said the same if it were Linden.

Neil is too important to our rebuild. We're not in the same situation as Phoenix and as much as Neil would like to win a cup he's still young enough to have a chance at doing that with Ottawa down the line. Neil has singlehandedly turned games around for us this year because of the way he plays and the energy he brings to the team.

People might say he's not the most skilled player (although he's actually pretty good for a grinder/tough guy) but he brings more than just his talent to the game. The asking price for Neil would be higher than any team would be willing to pay.

I would trade Gonchar, Kuba or Carkner before Lee.

I feel like Kuba and Gonchar are both in the middle of raising their trade values right now. If they can continue to play the way they have they'll command a lot more at the deadline than we could have expected. I could see Kuba going to the Rangers if they're still having D issues and are in the playoffs.

I'd like to see at least one D (if not more) moved at the deadline this year because we've got some good guys coming up now (Borowiecki, Gryba, Wierchioch) that should be looking for some more icetime. I hate seeing Lee as a healthy scratch, too.

Phillips - Lee
Cowen - Karlsson
Borowiecki - Rundblad

Next year maybe?

We will never trade Kuba for anything more than a 5th 2013 pick. If we manage a trade at all. We are stuck with Gonchar.Neil is too valuable to the team at this point. Only guys I see that are tradable are Lee, Foligno and Winchester. Maybe Carkner.

and we have kramer, dziurzynski working hard.

BUT, if neil asks murray for an extension, he will roll over and give him 5 yrs.

Because obviously having Neil around is a bad thing? As evidenced by his play this year?

Neil should stay with the Sens for life. The guy is all heart and soul and he really wakes this team up when it needs waking up. I still don't understand why people ever talk badly about Neil. We know that he's never going to be a super talented player -- but he brings it night in and night out. He's great to have around in a rebuild.
