Imagine a future on defense like:

Subban, Weber, Tinordi, Beaulieu and Murray?
I would legitimately shoot myself in the face if we got a top 5 pick and took a defenseman. This draft is very defense-heavy, we can get a great defenseman in the second round. This entire year will be a failure if we're picking top 5 and choose Murray over Grigorenko or Forsberg or Yakupov.

Agreed.

Nail Yakupov - Dynamic winger, enthusiasm, drive, determination, flair, playmaking, scoring, doing it all without Galchenyuk.
Mikhail Grigorenko - Dynamic center, tall, needs to add muscle, creative, flair, a wide array of shots and stellar playmaking. Can deke with the best of them.

Tier 2

Filip Forsberg. - Big showing in the Ivan Hlinka (I think that's what the tourneyis called) we will see if his stock rises at WJC.
Alex Galchenyuk - Knee injury, doesnt look as good without Yakupov but the talent is there.
Brendan Gaunce - Could become a Ryan Getzlaf type center.

Tier 3
Martin Frk - Shot, tenacity, hits hard, good playmaker.
Sebastien Collberg - Has one of the better shots in the draft. Natural goal scorer.
Zengus Girgensons - Very physical, could be a JVR type player.

More than a tenth of the season is done... It's very hard to move up spots with the extra point for an OT lost. We would need a spectacular drive to get out of the hole... Can that drive be generated just by waiting for a healthy club and a bit of luck?

We recovered after a slow start (not this slow) a few years ago but our preseason had looked very promising... Now with the preseason, what are we, 2 wins in 17 games? It's difficult to make positive projections.

Everybody goes through bad spells during the seasons, usually you're in good shape if you only have one. Well, we had ours, and I don't think we can afford another 7-8 games like this. So I'm going with 15 games.

I would say somewhere between games 18-20.

With all the doom and gloom, who's betting we win out the rest of the week? Suddenly we are in 4th place and the whole bad start is forgotten.

But this year is a year where we really don't need to do that much to tank. If we tank, we'd not be alone to do so. Columbus and Ottawa are in the race also.

If we hit 10 games below .500 the season is over.

Galchenyuk ( the knee scares me tho)
Grigorenko
Forsberg
Frk

There will be plenty of Dmen left in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, but for the love of god please get us a top end forward.......

The Habs dont need to have the number 1 overall pick, I`d settle for top 5 or 6. Then we are sure to get one of the top young forwards....

Habs Setting New Records....Last 21 games: 4 WINS

4w - 15L - 2 OTL

Includes: Playoffs, Camp and Regular season

This is beyond tanking

This will get us 39 POINTS at the end of the year if we keep it up like this.

To put things in Perspective, the last place teams in prior years :

Oilers 2011- 62 points
Oilers 2010 - 62 points
Islanders 2009 - 61 points
Tampa 2008 - 71 points

Does anyone smell 1st overall ???

The worst thing is we get to look forward to being manhandled and abused physically by Boston, regardless of the score. It's going to be a looooong, painful season IMO.

Yeah, well let's not be ridiculous. No team in the NHL could keep up the pace we're currently on. Hey if Columbus keeps up their pace, they'll have, what, 12 points?

I'd be happy with one of Grigorenko, Forsberg or Gaunce... but how big and physical are Forsberg or Gaunce?

Worst start possible?

Realistically speaking, the season could not have started any worse than this I don't think:

-Price and Subban regressing
-Markov being too injured to even skate/practice
-Cole being a bust so far
-Pacioretty getting hurt again
-Gomez still sucking

Not to mention being LAST IN THE EASTERN CONFERENCE.

So I pose a serious question: Realistically speaking, if someone suggested all of this would go down by this point in the season before the season, would you have thought of that as a worse case scenario?

Like I posted before, in our last 21 games, we have won 4 games.

Ever since Boston came from behind to take the series, this team has been in spiral.

Sure CAMP doesn't count, but is it a coincidence that we won only 2 games ?

At this point, the worst case scenario is that we pull a NJ Devils and have an amazing 2nd half...

You forgot the Campoli injury and picking up an ideal fourth line center off waivers only to find he was too injured to play.

Something's up, seeing as we lost 3 games in OT in the playoffs alone. We also won 3 games in the playoffs, one so far in the regular season, and at least 2 in the preseason. Count again. I also find it very helpful that we're including pre season games as clearly using the results of 6 meaningless games in 7 nights involving 63 different guys including Robert Mayer is a good way of evaluating just how good this team is.

To answer the thread topic idea, 10 games below 500 is about the cutoff. Get that low and you're not coming back. Right now we're 4 games below 500. A 4 game win streak gets us out of the hole.
