Man, this team is so uninspired, lazy, unfocused and terrible. CLEARLY it's Mike Richards fault. I bet if we stripped the C or traded him, all these issues would go away.
Oh, we traded him already? The issues are still there? Damn. FINE, let's trade Carter, that'll fix it.
These better be ****ing growing pains, and they better pass soon. If not...ugh. I don't really want to be proven correct about those trade. I'd really love to be wrong.
Someone should bring up Eric Lindros after every loss.

Good point.
That mushead can't do anything right. If his parents weren't running his life we would have won.
edit: Let's cover both sides: Ugh, if the Flyers organization hadn't tried to murder him he wouldn't have been pissed at them, he'd still be here and we would have won.

"Improved" might be the wrong word--but coherent. I think some of Couturier's offensive skill is being wasted on the fourth line. This set-up keeps a two pairs together for the PK as well in Talbot-Nodl and Couturier-Read.
From what I've seen, Voracek does all the crap that Carter was criticized for...except he doesn't score 35 goals a season to make up for it. We'll see if things improve over the course of the season.
Also...JVR. Come the hell on man, this team is relying on you to step up, stop beating your meat and get things done.
an instigator shouldn't matter at that stage of the game
It does.
Less than 5 minutes left, instigator = possible 1 game suspension + $10,000 fine for the coach.
Quote:
46.22 Fines and Suspensions – Instigator in Final Five Minutes of Regulation Time (or Anytime in Overtime) - A player who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation in the final five (5) minutes of regulation time or at anytime in overtime (see 46.12) hall be suspended for one game, pending a review of the incident.
When the one-game suspension is imposed, the Coach shall be fined $10,000 – a fine that will double for each subsequent incident.
The suspension shall be served unless, upon review of the incident, the Director of Hockey Operations, at his discretion, deems the incident is not related to the score, previous incidents in the game or prior games, retaliatory in nature, “message sending”, etc. The length of suspension will double for each subsequent offense. This suspension shall be served in addition to any other automatic suspensions a player may incur for an accumulation of three or more instigator penalties.
No team appeals will be permitted either verbally or in writing regarding the assessment of this automatic suspension as all incidents are reviewed by the Director of Hockey Operations as outlined above.
When Rinaldo was in the lineup and Couturier was 3rd line C, we were 4-0-1.
You're spot on. Couturier has been great, and definitely deserves more ice time/better linemates. Rinaldo gives this team some balls. Played a passive game against a bunch of midgets. Meszaros is the only I can recall that even threw a hit. Maybe Simmonds. You could have bet Rinaldo would have layed a couple people out. But no, that's not important. Let's play Shelley who can't skate fast enough to hit anyone.

So we would have been down 5-1 and on the penalty kill?
Shelley played 4:50 tonight. That's probably two minutes more than Rinaldo would have played if he was in the game. The truth is, unless it makes a difference in terms of the salary available for other parts of the line-up, neither one of them is going to be a difference-maker.

Having someone who doesn't take any **** and strikes some fear into the opponent goes a long way. Who's intimidating on this team? No one's afraid of Shelley. Big, slow, can't fight. When guys like Rinaldo are in the lineup, everyone else feeds off of it.
Schenn is awful. Looking more and more like an career AHLer every game. Seriously he's supposed to be an offensive playmaker and the only good thing he's done so far is throw a couple of hits. He can't win in the faceoff circle anymore, and half the time he looks like he can barely skate. I was more impressed with Shelley tonight. At least he forechecked.

Voracek has been useless so far, which has been disappointing since I was excited when we first got him. He's also failed to find any chemistry with any linemates yet which is only making things worse.
I think JVR is always going to be a slow starter. Same thing happened last year. At least he was getting some chances tonight, he just couldn't finish anything, and it was before garbage time when nobody really cares.
He even won faceoffs tonight. Also, he's quite clearly our best center defensively, and he's not even turned 19 yet. It feels better thinking about it without bothering about his competition here.
His stats are very impressive so far though. As is his actual play.

A rookie that didn't come in a completely dominate? Im shocked. I swear, people need to realize that not every rookie is going to to give you a Crosby or Ovechkin like rookie year.
