When will we see Korbinian Holzer with the Leafs?

he shoots right
he's 6-3 and 205
his first name is Korbinian (cool name for man crush / NHL standards)
looked pretty comfortable on the blue line in pre-season
is the guy the Leafs could be bringing up while they keep Franson down down down

The Hockey News:

Quote:
ASSETS: Has good size and plenty of physicality in his game. Also displays good puck-moving skills and a little offensive acumen.

FLAWS: Needs to fill out his 6-3 frame in order to play consistently well at the highest level. Also needs to smooth over the rough edges in his game.

CAREER POTENTIAL: Potential physical defenseman with upside.
what do you know about this guy? could we see him at all this year. could he be the secret player they're making room for?

Holzer vs. Franson?

who do you like?

please/thanks

I've already seen him on the Leafs. He's not really a secret player though and room will be made for Aulie first.

Pretty close to Aulie as a player.

I see Aulie getting priority over him though.

komi has been a healthy scratch this season. if we ship out Franson could we see more of this guy (due to his right handed shot)?

Maybe one day down the road he'll be carried as a spare d-man but he's not any minutes anytime soon. I also like Mikus more but maybe that's just me.

You have to wonder how much longer Mikus and Holzer will be satisfied with being a Marlie before going back home...

Been kinda wondering that about Mikus specifically for awhile now. I think they could both be serviceable NHL players one day but it doesnt look like it will be here or at least anytime soon.

Would be sad to see these guys go. Some real gems in the later rounds. Maybe the players we have a better than them? Not so sure about that. I've liked Phaneuf and Gunnarsson but the rest of the dmen haven't played very well. Including JML and Schenn. Would really like to see them rotated in and out but that would be impossible given that there is a limit to the roster size.

More excited about Mikus and Percy. Mikus was stellar in preseason. Burke must've seen something in Percy to pick him in the first round. Percy = Gardiner v2.0?

While Mikus may have looked better in preseason, I guarantee that Holzer has more NHL potential. This kid is hard as nails, plays a simple game and has better experience with top flight competition having played 2 NHL games, the Olympics and multiple World Championships

I remember hearing that holzer was one of germany's best players at the WC this year, and that he has come a long way from being a undisciplined defender who forces plays. I love our d prospect depth, hopefully it doesn't bite us in the ass one day, when one our boys becomes a stud, when we didn't give them a chance....

I wonder if Holzer and Mikus are destined to be Jay Harrison/Staffan Kronwall level ex-Leaf farm hands one day. The way they've been stockpiling defense makes me think they won't be full time Leafs.

Agreed. Any time Ive seen Holzer play, he always seems to play a simple, effective brand of hockey. He actually reminds me a bit of Gunarsson...not as good offensively, but a bit more physical.

I would have this guy on our team in a heartbeat, over Komisarek.

I wouldn't be surprised if Holzer could outplay Komi and Franson immediately in the NHL, sadly he got caught in numbers game and I seriously doubt if he would ever have a fair shot to make the big club with the Leafs.

He's pretty far down the depth chart but he's a favourite of mine. Plays a patient defensive game with a physical edge. Dominated the world championship in may and has been progressing steadily.

I think that Mikus, Aulie and Holzer are all pretty interchangable right now; just depends on our needs. If we want someone more offensively oriented then we call up Mikus, if we need a solid righty it's Korbi and if it's a big body it's Aulie.

I wouldn't say he's far down. The only guy I see ahead of him currently is Aulie. Other than that it's Holzer or Mikus next.

This may be the case.

As for Holzer, I'd like to see him get a shot. I think he can play in a depth role at the NHL level - and do a good job at it. I've liked his game over the last year.

As others have mentioned, he plays a very quiet but effective game.

Probably sounded too snarky in my earlier comment but unfortunately I can't see him playing his way onto the team anytime soon.

Why does his name make me think of a German tank? lol...

He'd come with a lot cheaper of a price tag then Komisarek as well. Not to mention he would never complain about sitting in the press box like Franson did.

Here's to hoping Franson and Komisarek are leaving shortly.

Thought about that too. Korbinian should get a chance soon!

Well, as of right now he's behind Phaneuf, Schenn, Komi, Franson for RD. So unitl that changes we won't be seeing him anytime soon.

Maybe he'll end up being a nice asset to include in a trade for an upgrade.

I'm not certain he's ready yet.

Any interest in me writing up a player profile on him for Friday, by the way?
