Probably sounded too snarky in my earlier comment but unfortunately I can't see him playing his way onto the team anytime soon.

Why does his name make me think of a German tank? lol...
Because Panzerkampfwagon is so close to Holzer its hard not to.

They were referred to as Panzers in general.

I think that the Leafs are trying to take a more patient approach with prospects now and want to create a situation where they are not coming up to the NHL quickly due to a lack of depth on the big team. The rest is up to them and Eakins and his coaching staff.

Honestly, if we had Holzer + Aulie instead of Komisarek + Franson I think our team would be better. I will agree that we haven't given Franson a fair look, but Komi is too slow to keep up with some teams. If Gardiner struggles at all and needs time with the Marlies one of them or Mikus could replace him.

I would like an over view of all the Defencemen on the Marlies, everyone is saying Aulie should be the first D recalled but I have read recently, that he is not doing that well down there, so if an injury or trade occurs, who is the logical choice to be called up?

Aulie played well with Phanuef last year but he has not returned to that level this year.

- Keith Aulie’s mediocre preseason saw him demoted in favor of the slick, puckmoving Gardiner and the young defenseman may have had his confidence rattled just a little bit. He’s looking a little tentative on the Marlies’ blueline, sometimes getting caught flatfooted because of his indecisiveness. Aulie needs to regain that assertive, physical game that earned him a big role with the NHL club last season.

Holzer would be just as good as Komi.

Maybe a Howitzer? although, it's not even German.

Haha OP why not just make a thread for every player on the Marlies. Them playing on the big club will all be decided by injuries.

Nah. I have special interest in him. I have a nose for talent and a 6th sense when it comes to talent.

The call-up list from the Marlies will probably go as follows:

1)Aulie
2)Blacker
3)Percy
4)Mikus
5)Holzer

I second the opinion that I don't see Holzer breaking in with the Leafs. I think he's going to be one of those guys who spends some time in the AHL and either finds his niche with another team that is more thin on the blueline, or he;s just a borderline AHL/NHLer. Aulie has experience, so he's the closest, and I put Blacker and Percy in there because of their draft positions.

The Leafs would almost certainly call up Holzer and Mikus before Percy. (imo)

He'll be up by next year I'd say.

Right now the logjam makes it pretty much impossible.

Percy is still playing in the OHL with St. Mike's. There's no reason to rush him along and run into problems with his development.

Yeah, sorry I forgot Percy was in the OHL.

I just see Percy and Blacker seeing time with the Leafs over Holzer and Mikus, even though they are probably closer to being NHLers. Burke and Wilsonofuva, are more kind to North American defenseman than they are to unproven Euro's.

They have to get rid of Komisarek and or Gunnarson before that happens.

Hopefully Komi goes first.

things will change in the 2nd half of the season. Burke will make room for him in the next 2 weeks. we'll see movement on that right side. IMHO Schenn is in the way.

Guess you are too dense to notice that every time you bump one of your old threads it gets closed.

I hope we see him soon. He's a very good defenseman and will only improve at the NHL level.

No, just the only one sporting a Holzer avatar and this thread has nothing to do with the player but only psychic ability. Right?

Somewhat of an unrelated topic, but can anyone who watches the Marlies on a regular basis provide some input on how Blacker is progressing? I figured he would have better offensive stats, but I'm assuming he plays more of a bottom pairing role with the odd PP time?
