So where do the majority here lean? We need to look outside the organization for a goalie or Tik is still our future?
Right now I'm not sold on Tik, unfortunately. I think we'll have a #1 from outside next season. It would buy more time for Tik or Janus (in case they don't get traded in the act of acquiring a "mellow" #1) to develop and to either compete for that #1 spot over the next 1-3 years or at least increase their value for eventual trades [or just bust].
According to Bob McKenzie on Inside Trading the Bruins will hold on to Rask at least until Thomas' contract expires ("that's their succession plan"). How about Thomas to Tampa (once again)? He could provide solid goaltending for another 1-3 years, has ties to Marty and maybe would take a discount in 2013 to play with him again.

That's sort of stretching it, as no one knows how good Rask or Thomas will be then, what Boston will decide to do, or what other solutions Tampa Bay could find in the meantime.
Smith looks great in AZ. I think our system/defense makes any goalie look bad.
The defense everyone seems to be complaining about (including the 1-3-1)? The lightning D isn't perfect, but it sure seems to be a stretch to think they are to blame for any goaltender's issues. Roli seemed to do fine last year, and any decent goalie would do fine in Tampa. This isn't Florida with Luongo or something. If a goalie struggles in Tampa, it is more likely the goalie that is the issue.

I think at this point of the season it's a combination of both. Both Roli & Garon have had some rough outings and some very good outings. The team in front of them has been a bit Jekyl & Hyde as well - you're never quite sure what you're going to get. I think they're all still trying to get on the same page consistently.
Only because Scrivens looked worse. For most of the game, Smitty was diving forward like he did last year just like Martin Gerber used to do and if the Leafs had taken notice, they should've shot high.
I say offer him a 5th and leave it on the table for 2 reasons.
1) Nabokov controls his destination(NTC) so if say Columbus offers a 1st Nabokov will want to go to a contender so he'll just veto the trade.
2) Doubt Snow will want to lose him for absolutely nothing.
That's why Snow was asking for a 2nd round pick for some time, but couldn't find any takers. There's no way C-bus would offer a first if Snow couldn't get a 2nd, but I take your point.
Snow may have to settle for little or very nothing because they've got 3 goalies, and they're the Islanders. They can't seriously expect any sort of pieces that will lead to some sort of future success.
What's odd to me is that we vilify Nabokov, yet who were the ones to sign him before the Islanders claimed him? It was the Red Wings, and if that doesn't make everybody arguing against him uncomfortable, well...
You've also got to remember that they signed Nabokov right around the time Jimmy Howard was starting to emerge. The Islanders may have inadvertently helped the Red Wings more than hurt them by claiming Nabokov and sparing them the probable headache, but there was the logic in the Detroit organization that Nabokov's past transgressions weren't bad enough to automatically exclude him from the chance to be a Red Wing.
Maybe it's that Russians (or Kazakhs) old enough to remember the Soviet Union just don't really give a **** about PR.

Snow is supposedly looking for a 3rd round pick for Nabokov. Is there some point where we make a deal, or is Evgeni Nabokov just a deal breaker?

Nabby re-tweaked his groin injury and is probably out till about 1 week before Christmas. The Isles are definitely going to be looking to move him. The 3 goalie circus cannot continue. It didn't work and was never going too. Should have moved Nabby this summer. If Garth can't move him shortly after returning, I am looking to see him get waived.
Halak could be an option too. Not necessarily right now but in the off-season.
Thats the guy I want in a Bolt Uniform. Think he would fit in just great. I'm hoping Elliot keeps tearing it up, making Halak more expendable. Him in a bolts Jersey makes me drool...
Depending on how crushed the Avs get in the next months, Giguere might become an option.
I'm sort of inclined to doing like last year, and making a move before July 1. Marty Turco still exists as well, but I'm really still on the fence about needing a new goalie just yet.
NJ is the x-factor should Brodeur retire after this season. I don't think they'll get a top flight goaltender. And they'll likely end up with a Phillipe Sauve back there, or maybe Tomas Vokoun.
