Mike Richards' nickname

Why is it Rick? Rick is a cop out, almost a joke of a nickname.

His last name is plural. Why not Ricks..

If we have to go with the "Rick" theme:
Why not Rickopotamus?
Ricky Ricardo He could do a Desi Arnez impression. "I'm open Lucy!"
Rick of Ages
The Richter Scale
Rico Sauvé
Party like a Rickstar
Ritchie Rich(since he makes more than Richardson)
Tyrannosaurus Rick
Ritchen!

Why not something with Mike?
Michael Angelo
Since his name is technically Michael Richards, why not "Kramer"
The Mike Lane
Mike-Check
Mike Jagger

I don't think the name Kramer is really in good standing.

I prefer a nickname that just sounds awesome, like Jack 'Mother *********g' Johnson. That sounds badass.

Mike Kick @$$ Richards

Bad @$$ Mike (BAM for short)

It has to be short so that it can be called ot on the ice. I vote for "El Guapo".

I guess because he's been Richie for all his years (from the time he came to the Phantoms) it's hard to call him anything else, esp. Rick.

Deuce - since he was the 2nd Richie

Blade- which is what I heard either Mike Babcock or another one of the coaches at the Olympics refer to him as (on why he was picked). I remember the wording being 'the kid's a wicked blade, you know a gold Swiss Army Knife, nothing he can't do;'

Can't use it anymore but several of the HF board Flyers members would call him Captiain Crunch - they even had a photo of a fake cereal box with his face on it and 'full of piss and vinegar' across the bowl.

Cannon - is the best board nickname since he is cannon

It's a shame MF is taken cause that suits him.

But Rick he was renamed and now he's stuck with it, even if it doesn't suit him
(But I like Richter scale...that's good)

I vote for Cannon. Love it.

And I'd love to see the cereal box if anyone has a picture. That sounds awesome.

I still vote for Hedo Rick. If you don't know what Hedo Rick is, youtube him. He has 2 million hits. I don't think it's NSFW but there is some interesting language.

Any Kevin and Bean fan should know Hedo Rick.

Cannon was the most random thing in the history of the internet, but turned out to be a lot of fun on the Flyers board. To this day, no one knows what the heck the original poster was talking about.

I'm sure the Captain Crunch picture is in one of the photoshop threads on the Flyers board, or the original Mike Richards is Cannon thread. I believe Jules801 did it (and a bunch of other amazing 'shops).

I can't call him anything other than Richie, but that's already taken. So I just call him Mike, but it's pretty boring. He doesn't look like a Rick to me, though.

How about combining Mike and Rick together for a Mick?

If not, Miguel perhaps?

Porque no?

Cannon and Richie work for me. The whole "Mike Richards is Cannon" thing was the most confusing yet funny thing. Nobody knows why the poster said that but it sure stuck!

I think its imperative that Richards and Simmonds continue to be referred to as Cannon and Night Train by their respective fan bases.

I think the oringal poster (and thanks to jml87 for reposting the original link. I forgot how funny some of the replies were) misspelled it.

My take on it was that Mike Richards is canon

can·on/ˈkanən/
Noun:1.A general law, rule, principle, or criterion by which something is judged.

In otherwords, when you look up 'ultimate Hockey Warrior' in the Hockey Dictionary MR's photo comes up...speaking of photos...

I found the Captain Crunch PHoto....

Why not just call him Richards? It's not like he has some hard to pronounce name.

I'd hate for people to call me a nickname when my own name is simple enough.

Some of you remind me of the Seinfeld episode where George goes out of his way to get a T-Bone nickname, and then everyone calls him Koko instead.

F nicknames. They usually end up sounding either feminine (Cammy) or make the guy sound like a 5 year old (Dewey, Richie).

Nicknames are terms of endearment and acceptance. My name is very short so people add to it to make it a nickname. I prefer the nickname because it's said with affection.

I used to have that bookmarked, as well as the one about Downie after the McAmmond hit, and of course the one when Scottie Upshall was traded. All 3 were classics!

It also usually comes from the players themselves. Hockey players have this thing about shortening people's names and adding a y or an s to the end. Maybe it makes it easier when they talk to each other on the ice? But after the players keep calling their teammates nicknames in interviews and stuff, it starts to stick with the fans.

If I played on the Kings and since Ritchie is already taken by Richardson, I would call him "Phlly" Since he was captain there and a team leader.
