No, just a temporary reprieve. If the losing streak continues it's inevitable that he'll be fired, too. PG will be safe throughout this season because there's nothing he can do about it in so short a time. If the injured players return and the Habs start winning he'll be safe for next season too. It doesn't mean he shouldn't make meaningful personnel changes soon.
throwing the women and children overboard... further sign of some majestic leadership from this bunch of clowns.
how does Pearn, who Martin knows like the back of his hand, and who he personally brought in, all-of-a-sudden become not good enough in his role?
Cue the comments about how critiquing this move is just bashing management for bashing's sake, and how pearn probably deserved to be fired as witnessed by the PK/PP/Bench problems :
about the only thing that wouldn't make this reek like a desperation scapegoat move, is if Pearn had to leave for personal and/or better opportunity reasons, though not usually the case when a guy gets fired.
weak move by a desperate bunch...
Gainey knew Doug Jarvis and Guy Carbonneau very well but he had to axe them
This surprises me. Captain Ahab is still the captain and running the ship, same problems, nothing has changed. While Pearn doesnt appear to be loved, everyone knows the root of the problem is JM, not Pearn. Does PG really think anybody buys this or that it changes things ? As to the bringing in new blood, its an assistant coach, the coach calls the shots. Only possible positive is if its somebody to fill the roll Captain Kirk filled.
It's because he told Marc Denis on live tv that the players need to play edgy but stay disciplined, taking the weber penalty as an example on how not to protect your goalie, basically meaning "do nothing".
Why? I want an explanation which is not one based on speculation.
Because this move reeks of being desperate retardedness. One hour before a game, how often do you see a firing of an assistant coach, while the guy in charge is still left in charge.
This isn't gonna change a thing, the team has actually played well. It's completely stupid imo. I'd say the same thing if Martin himself was let go, but at least firing the head guy would make a little bit of sense.
