McCabe

Is Bryan McCabe still a free agent? If he is what do you think the chances are that the Flyers would reach out to him and inquire about a cap-friendly one-year deal give the injury to Pronger? If there's one thing Homer's fantastic at it's skirting around the salary cap and I think if it was a reasonable number he could make this work (waive shelley )

Which player are we unloading to free up the contract space for McCabe?

Well that's sort of part of my question. Let's say we could convince him to sign a one-year Vokounesque contract with us. What type of moves would we have to make and would it be worth it?

If Pronger is finished for the season, yes, go out and find a reasonable replacement.

If Pronger returns in a week or two, this does not make sense at all.

At minimum, we would need to use another draft pick to get a team to take an AHL contract from us--a la Legein. If its just a 7th, that's not necessarily a problem, but we're into the season now, so fewer teams have flexibility / desire to help us out.

Dropping Shelley and Walker provides some cap space, though Holmgren seems opposed to the former. Without dropping Shelley, it would have to be a pretty friendly contract.

I agree with this, unless it turns out that Gustafsson won't cut it in the NHL yet, and the management really don't want to use Lilja as the 6th regularly. It appears obvious that Lavy doesn't trust Walker (at least not right now, maybe he's got some nagging injury that we don't know about). Not sure McCabe would be that much better than Lilja though.

That would mean Walker (and maybe, but not likely, Shelley) back on the waivers, hopefully he is claimed otherwise a trade similar to the Legein one would have to happen.

I'm not saying that they don't have any faith in having Lilja as the 6th d, I'm just saying that the signing of McCabe could make sense despite Pronger returning.

if they could sign him for 800k and dump one of the other slugs that would be a very nice move. not sure why he hasnt signed yet though.

he can't be any worse than Walker, can he?

Maybe, he was bad when teams used him in the top 4

Can this thread be deleted in case Homer sees it and thinks it's the solution? Pretty please?

This Franchise will never waive either Shelley or Walker. From day 1 of their time being in Philadelphia they played like crap and all media and fans want them in the ahl but everytime they stay with the big club or only taking training games in the ahl (Walker) and be recalled.

So pls stop your wishes on this case. We will play the season with Walker and Shelley!

I hate it so much but it is what it is!!!

Yeah but does Lavy have to play Shelly?
Last night we finally were up 7-6 and who's out there? Shelley!!! Who has all the time in the world along the boards to get the puck out? Shelley!!! Who fails to get the puck out? Shelley!!! What happens? The puck stays in the zone and w-peg scores.

We worked all game to get momentum and eventually get from 6-2 to 7-6. We didn;t see Shelley at all. Then, we finally have the lead and Shelley is out there and causes a goal. WTF was LAVY DOING?

if the PP was going in the sh*tter then it wouldn't be a bad idea but the PP still looks OK w/o Pronger. McCabe isn't an answer. Let's see what Gus can do for a few weeks.

edit: PP is the sh*tter...i made a funny.
