Thomas Pock

Hey guys;

What can you tell me about defenceman Thomas Pock?

1) Will he be in your top 4?
2) Will he play 50+ games next year?
3) How many points do you see him tallying next year?

Thanks in advance!

He will probably be in the top 4. It just depends on the combos the coaches come up with.

Unless he gets injured, which he has no history of, he will play the whole season. Unless he collapses in camp or they do something stupid.

If he plays the whole season I think he can crack 30 points as a rookie.

Last year he had 4 points in 6 games.... Is he an offensive defenceman?

He is a forward transplanted to defense for his senior year in college and now in the pro game as well. I'd say he will be a fairly offensive defenseman although next year they may focus on him working on his defense.

I think hes going to be a very good offensive defensemen. But he is only a rookie so I wouldnt expect a lot of points right off the bat.

1) Depends. Right now we have Poti, Tyutin, Rachunek and Kasparaitis ahead on the depth chart. But it all depends on who plays with who.

2) Depends. He will be battling Bryce Lampman and Maxim Kondratiev for 2 spots in the top-6 right now. It is all up to how he peforms in camp relative to these two. Although it can all change if Tom Poti is traded before the season starts.

3) Depends on how many games he plays and who he plays with.

If he makes the team I would expect anywhere from 20-35 points.

"Last year he had 4 points in 6 games"- what do u think, its kind of obvious

any way he is a 2 way defenseman to me but has a higher offensive upside, looks good on d but still has alot to learn, he shows alot of interest in taking the body and clearing trhe zone etc.. he will be a good 2 way player for nyr for years to come i think atleast, i say will have a ceiling of a 45-50 pt dman, once agian thats just imo

battling lampman and kondratiev, definitly. but, i think its more kondratiev really . pock looked to be more mature in those 6 games he played then lampman did, lampman still looks to me like he needs more work than pock. dont get me wrong so does pock but he showed more signs of being an all around player right off the bat, lampman im not sure what he isa #3,4,5 or 6 damna . pock looks to be a a defintie #3, possible #2 but definitly no lower than #4 d-man thats a fact./

if he plays with a stay at home d-man lets say marshall or kaspar ( wouldnt mind marshall at all he could learn the d side of the game ), just as an example he will be joining the rush when ever possible, and will produce. and i will give my opinion on pock and poti, pock will come out and be a better defensive player this season than poti and will look better offensively , which i feel pock's play will force poti to be moved, for who knows maybe a 2nd rounderno less i hope..

1) I don't think so. Poti, Tyutin, Rachunek and Kasparaitis are all ahead of him.

2) Maybe, maybe not. It's all on him now.

3) IF he plays 82 games: 30 points at best.

Think of a Tom Poti clone.

Pck's 4 points in 6 games have been nice. But don't forget: He's a rookie. He has a whole lot to learn.

With Poti, Rachunek and Tyutin in the lineup they might opt to go with some stay at home guys like Lampman and Kondratiev.

However it all depends on who does what in camp. Don't forget Lampman was going to make last years team until he got hurt.

My guess is Pock spends some time in Hartford learning defense. They brought him to look at him {they had nothing to lose at that point and Hartford was trying to get it set for the playoffs}.

I wouldn't bet money on him starting the year in NY, but you never know.

I think he might in type of player, not necessarily style.

A nice offensive defenseman but certainly not elite and not the most solid defender in the world. But possibly a nice second pairing guy on a team that is going somewhere which will help to enhance his strengths and minimalize his weaknesses.

Neither Kondratiev or Lampman are stay at home defensemen.

Kondratiev is more offensive than stay at home. I will say I havent seen him but ALL reports say he is either an offensive defensemen or two way but I have never read he is a stay at home defensemen.

Where did you see him play? Because I cant find a lot of reports right now but two quickies I found were

NYR.com - " A solid all-around defenseman who can both defend and jump into the play offensively"

TSN - "Moves the puck up ice quickly and efficiently. Owns a very projectable frame and plenty of offensive upside."

I'd rather have a stay at home guy but from what Ive gathered, he is not.

Because I think that he is very weak defensively but can contribute nice on offense.

Ranger management certainly sees a lot here. They are paying him the rookie maximum (that they would not pay Umberger) He does need work on his defense -- interesting to see if it will come around ro whether he will become another Greg Hawgood.

I'd rather have a stay at home guy but from what Ive gathered, he is not.

Well those are words usually used in a scouting report. I mean they aren't gonna say "he has stone hands".

Both guys can move the puck effectivly in the sense that they aren't idiots with it, but both guys are stay at home types who will never put up huge numbers.

They might get their 20 some odd points, but they won't be powerplay guys probably and won't be rushing into the play. I mean even stay at home guys have to be able to pass and stuff {see Lefebrve in his prime and guys like Samuelsson, etc.}.

So what I am trying to say is that they can move the puck but it'll mostly be first passes out of the zone etc. Lampman is strictly a defensive defenseman and Kondatriev probably has a little more offense but is still a stay at home guy. In fact I expect Kondatriev to get long looks as the defensive anchor for Tyutin.
