Brian Boyle

What's up with the guy that captured so many of us last year?

Is Avery really the balls of the team? Whenever Boyle was on the same line as Avery, they both seemed more physical.

What might be the problem?

He had a career year he will never have again. We should have traded him when his value was high. I'm not just saying this now, I've been saying this the entire off-season.

Good 4th line player who brings hard work, a physical presence, and leadership to the locker room.

But he's never going to score 20 goals again.

Yeah I remember this offseason, everyone pretty much said he wouldn't live up to what last year was.

Still a valuable guy for us.

Boyle is the classic case of the guy who decided to put forth the extra effort when his contract was up for renewal.

He sucked before RFA, and now he sucks after the new contract.

I know it's harsh but it's the reality of the situation. The fact that his ice time has been relatively consistent despite doing nothing offensively shows that he's one of Torts' favorites.

And last time I checked, he was our 3rd line center who get PP and PK time.

Disagreed. He's still playing hard, he's just not getting as lucky as he was the first half of last season.

Agreed. He's playing much better than he did his first year here.

He's just not going to score 20 goals.

Boyle is still an improved player, and an excellent PKer. Don't expect him to put up 20 every year and he is a solid bottom 6 center.

Heres the problem.

The team ****ing sucks.

When we get lucky and all our marginal 4th line players score 20 goals, then we might have something going

Until then, no.

boyle is a solid physical player who would serve us best if he parked his godamned ass in front of the net on both ends of the ice. clearing it out for hank on one end and reaking havoc on the other.thank you.

He's slow. Painfully slow. And for a 3rd line center, he doesnt generate any scoring chances or prevent other ones from happening.

You call last season luck. I call no coincidence.

Four goals in his last 46 games, dating back to last season and the playoffs. Four.

That's pathetic production from a center playing 14/15 or so mins a game.

And i don't know what "playing hard" means. I mean, they're hockey players. It's like saying a Boxer is "fighting hard" in a match. Pretty much implied, in my mind.

Actually, the correct answer is that this is example #114a in the "I'm not happy with the team's first nine games and will complain about everything until they win two games convincingly" string of threads.

Seriously. Can we give the team until at least the 30 game mark or so before we start making these sweeping judgments? I mean for crying out loud, based on Dubi's first 13 or so games last year he was one of the top 5 players in the league. It swings both ways.

I actually had a dream that we signed boyle to a 7 year 49 million deal. I guess it was a nightmare, why I am dreaming about things like this I have no idea...

Actually, Boyle has been pretty bad for over half a season.

I think he'll still suck at Game 30. At least offensively.

Love the guy, but he scored a lot of fluke goals last year, plus getting a lot more minutes due to injuries, I doubt he gets more then 10 goals, hope he does though.

Exactly. He started off red hot, but in reality, he was just getting some lucky bounces. You said he put forth the extra effort knowing he was headed for contract expiration. Did he only put forth that effort for the first 30 games of last year, then say **** it? No, he was just extremely fortunate to pile up the goals the way he did to start the year. He's the same player now that he was at the beginning of last season.

It sounded to me as if you were implying that he was somehow playing less hard or putting forth less effort now that he earned a new contract. If I misinterpreted, sorry. My response was to say that no, he's playing just as hard and putting in just as much effort as he was to start last year when he was producing.

thank u for not imagining that "almost the entire fanbase was enamored by him."We all knew we overpaid for him this summer. Whenever people are negative about something here on HF they seem very prone to revisionist history about how the rest of the board felt

Brian Boyle just ins't that good. Now don't get me wrong I think he's a great 4th liner, but he's still a 4th liner and it's for a reason. When you expect/need guys like Brian Boyle to score 20+ goals it just means your team sucks. I think 10 out of Boyle would be excellent considering what else he brings. As I alluded to before, on a good team Boyle would do his job and the goals would be scored by somebody else. there is no somebody else on the Rangers. This is a team issue, not a Boyle issue.

He's an above average 4th line center. In any other role he is out of place. Been saying this for months. Don't expect much offense and he will not disappoint. Torts is misreading his skill set.

And he was 11th in hits last year. If he can get something similar this year I'll be happy.

Knew he could never get back to last season. Well its still early, but the way hes been playing doesn't seem like he will.. Hopefully he will because I miss the old Boyle :/.

I guess 10 games in without a goal is a little discouraging...I don't think last year was a fluke, unless it was a fluke that he played to his potential.

Maybe Boyle just needs the next step up. He definitely needs to be the body in front on the PP and the guys around him need to handle it better.

I still have faith. Hope Avery makes it, you never know.
