Things that make me go hmmmmmmm...

Jack Johnson (w/ DD in lineup) 5GP 1G, 1A, -5
Jack Johnson (w/o DD in lineup) 6GP 2G, 1A, +7
<---PHI game counts as w/o DD since he was knocked out :24 in--->

================================================== ===========

Dustin Penner has "earned" $207,319 per point registered since coming to the Kings and he's registered just 7 points more than I have.

================================================== ===========

Kings are a -8 at even strength in their 5 losses.

================================================== ===========

Kings are 6-1 when Mike Richards registers a point

================================================== ===========

Last Season the Kings scored .81 goals for every first period (tied for 15th best). This season the Kings are scoring at a little more than half that rate and are tied for 26th in 1st period goals per game (.44).

Is it important to score early or first? Well, Kings are 3-1-1 when they score a goal in the first period and 4-0-2 when they score first.

================================================== ===========

You ALL missed my birthday again! Well almost all of you, LBFF hit me up on FB. Never fails!

I could be wrong on this but could it be that Jack Johnson's plus/minus benefits from playing with the top line when Drew Doughty is out of the line up and suffers when he is in the line up because he is playing with players that aren't scoring very much?

It didn't help his +/- yesterday on the powerplay when Kopitar and Doughty sucked their way to a -1 for Jack.

I was afraid that if I started a HB thread here, that the shock would kill you in your old age.

Half those games without DD in the line-up were Quick's shutouts.

We need much more offense. I was afraid of this, that the lack of scoring ability would bleed itself into this season.

Just think: if the Kings had put just one more goal into the net in each of the last two games they wouldn't have lost on that bad bounce in Phoenix and they would have had insurance against that fluke goal in Denver.

They really need to start putting pucks into the net and a much greater clip. Perhaps this will happen as the players get more comfortable with each other as the season progresses?

Or perhaps it will happen if we sit Penner down and put in a real goal scorer like Westgarth.

I know people (JJ lovers) don't wanna hear it, but JJ screwed up to on that play. When you have a man advantage....there is no way a guy should be able to go around your net without pressure coming from the other side...JJ was late to get there. Was it as grievous an error as DD or Kopi or Quick...no, but an error still.

Also -8 5v5 in loses would make sense as your losing each game by atleast a goal. I wouldn't expect a team to be positive in loses.

First period goals, to early to pull anything statistically relevant, as a goal or 2 would throw all the numbers.

Also I agree with Buddy, JJ's numbers suffer because he isn't being protected by Kopi. Last year that woulda put him with Stoll/Smyth. Hopefully once the second gets clicking JJ's numbers will improve.
