Really guys??? 10 games and you're ready to stick a fork in them? We've had our two highest paid players step up and deserve their money, decent record, couple new guys and our franchise dman being taught how to play the game differently. And we still have a playoff record.
The only thing I'm not happy with is good teams know how to finish teams out. When you're up by two goals and have the D we have, we shouldn't loose, never not at least get a point.
Shoot, Roy, Hecht, Ennis and our big splash Leino have done squat and we're still doing ok. Still missing that one piece but the core is solid and I still believe we'll at least be in the ecf.
Here's a fun little statistic: in 2005-06, the season most Sabres fans agree was one of our best chances to win a stanley cup, we started the year 6-4-0, exactly the same as this year. Look how that year turned out. Let's calm down before making crazy assertions through only 10 games.
We bottomed out at 8-9-0, too, IIRC. Those two disasters against Ottawa took place after they were 6-4-0 (the 10-4 and 6-1 games)
I will say it's a fair assessment this squad has had only one game where it put together 3 periods of solid dominating hockey. Even last year's 2nd-half-of-season push didn't have a lot of dominate-all-3-period-games. Is it unrealistic to expect BUF does that more than 10% of the games? i.e., outplay the opponent for 3 straight periods? I don't know... Doesn't seem that farfetched to wish for that more often. But "panic"? Not me.
Actually yes. With the hype of the big free agents and the supposed great goaltending, im kinda bummed, considering the lousy play at home, almost blowing it against Columbus and really no business winning that habs game on the road.
I know its only 10 games but all im saying it seems like more of the same old..... Our coaches are not good teachers ! And before ya know it its gonna be 20 games... they need to right the ship soon. But of course im a troll.............
I'll take the close to "same old", slightly improved. It got them to the playoffs last year and an OT goal from moving onto the 2nd round.
I'll start to worry when they regress over a long period. Not improve from the previous year over a small sample size.
They're gonna put it together. They've got too many talented guys who are passengers right now, but certainly won't remain so for long. Patch a few things up here and there, late breakdowns and such, and this team is 8-2 right now. With Boston down so far so fast, I'll say they probably win the division.
