Well, people were complaining about O'Reilly's play so maybe this will appease some folks. I see a lot of references to Peverly and Santorelli references coming, though.

Makes room for Erat to come off the IR.

Hah,seriously. Just didn't work out here I guess. Phx adds center depth. Still hope he breaks out.

That was my initial thought, but then I realized something else. Turris will probably be moved very shortly now that PHX has a center to replace him.

Turris isn't playing so O'Reilly won't be replacing him.

Maloney called Turris right after he closed the O'Reilly deal - "That's how easily we replaced you."
-Mirtle

Wow, harsh words.

edit: Sorry about the tweet. Apparently it was a sarcastic comment.

mod edit: merged the two posts so that people know it was a joke that was re-tweeted

Good for him, he can go take lazy penalties in another organization.

At least Peverley had hustle.

He just did. Phx center depth isn't great and adding cal means turris isn't going to be playing. Effectively he has been replaced.

Fine by me. We likely could have received more prior to the start of the season, but then again, we were hoping Cal O would be the guy he was in the first half of last year. He wasn't. He was terrible, really, at both ends of the ice. I think Phoenix gets good value, and on a bad team or more offensive-minded team, he can put up 45-50 points. He wasn't going to do that here.

Good bye Cal and good luck.

It wouldn't surprise me. If he gets a shot at a top 6 role in Phoenix, he may well put up some numbers. That said, he was not a good fit in this system, and this prevents us from having to drop Blake to the AHL, so good of Poile to get something for him, I suppose. Hope the kid figures it out though.

He'll play with guys like Taylor Pyatt, Raffi Torres and if he's lucky Korpikoski in Phoenix. The Coyotes are neither a bad team, nor an offensive team.

How do you all think he'll do?

Agree with earlier post- this allows Blake to stay when Erat returns.
As such, we are a better team. CalO was the worst player on the team this year... worse than our 3rd pairing trio.

This highlights the one (yes one... don't flame me) mistake I thought Poile made in offseason personnel decisions: He re-signed CalO instead of Goc. Goc at 1.7M (even over 3 years) would have been a better bet than CalO at 1M for a year IMO.

Well, this years draft is supposedly almost as deep as '03, and you can tell Poile is excited about it. Hopefully we can draft another Smith with this 4th.

Except Turris is a good young player that was starting to show flashes of reaching his upside, and Cal is a fringe NHLer that can't stay healthy. It'd be like trading Blum and "replacing" him with say, Jeff Foss.

I'm thinking this also shows confidence in Mueller to be first call up.

And Cal has a contract. Turris doesn't. That makes Cal more valuable to PHX than a player who won't play for them.

11 goals is "flashes of reaching his upside"? O'Reilly had a better goal per game and point per game pace than Turris last season. Turris has a lot more potential than O'Reilly, but, he's a 22 year old holdout who has yet to do anything special at the NHL level.
