Actually, that part isn't proof of any flaws in their numbers.

Attendance figures don't include standing room tickets, as far as I know. That's why you always see teams like Toronto (and recently, Pittsburgh) with higher attendance figures than they actually have seats. That's because they not only sell out their seats, but also the extra standing room tickets as well.

Is this really something we need more of? I mean it can be fun to look at for a second but im not clamoring for more attendance tracking.

Actual attendence is lower than that. Theres many reasons why it's that low, and none of it's because of the market. It's not going to be great this season, but it should go up once Galliardi has his feet set as owner, he'll be owner starting in December.

How does a team get over 100%? Do they hide in the rafters swinging from ropes to get to their seats?

I'm shocked at Dallas though.

And LOL at Winnipeg at being sold out every game and being ranked 23rd.

I strongly question those Detroit numbers. Watch a game, numerous empty seats.

Seen some of their games and those numbers are probably correct, has been very empty. Looked like 1/3 - 1/4 of the arena was filled at some games. Think its because of the Texas Rangers.

Its been discussed that in Detroit people buy season tickets alot but dont bother going to the games until the post season. The attendance is just ticket sales, they dont actually count each person to show up.

The team hasn't been good since the rebuild started. Yes there is more excitement this year and they have alot more season ticketholders but they ultimately need to win to get more fans at the games.

That seems like a bit of a loose statement. Sure that happens, maybe in every market but I don't think it's some kind of a regional thing where people shell out money and use their purchase/product as if it were the thing to do. It most def doesn't happen in mass numbers.

The NHL is very protective of the Detroit Red Wings as a brand, read into that as you will.

Everyone knows that if you got 15.500 average attendance it means you don't have fans, we've been hearing it for years

Seems this site is more accurate. Up to 23rd of October they have one game accounted for Buffalo with a sellout

Again, this proves that people can't say "Phoenix isn't a hockey town". Like I've said before if a buisness fails, you blaim the management and not the customers. Look at the three teams in the New York City area. NYR, NYI and NJ. NYR has 100$ attendance, because it is a well run team. NYI and NJ are not as well run, and have less attendance. If anyone wants to tell me that any of thoes three citys aren't "Hockey towns" you must be crazy.

I for one, really enjoy telling people they don't deserve their NHL team!

Just use the menus on the left to find what team you want to look at, and then click on attendance.

Standing room isn't the answer. Edmonton Also offers standing room and their numbers are locked at 100.

100%+ attendance isn't a mathematical glitch. arenas tend to have standing room areas and other special seating areas that push the attendance above the actual number of seats available.

Assuming that you're correct, that just means that it's not the answer in Edmonton. Different arenas count things differently.

The Devils have 3 Cups, and people try to belittle the Devils fanbase because we still fail to sellout every game. I applaud the 14,000 Panthers fans who show up to your games since they haven't made the playoffs since 2000.

The Devils have to compete directly with the Isles and Rangers, and indirectly compete with the Flyers. Southern New Jersey is nothing but Philly fans. The Rangers sell out every game only on a technicality.

Long Island, Ney York City and New Jersey are not all the same location.....

Phoenix being last in % capacity sold is the reason people can and will say Pheonix isn't a hockey town.

Once Winter Break for college students comes along, you'll see crowds regularly at 15,000 like I said earlier. This is nothing new with the Devils. Attendance wise they get off to slow starts.
