Nino's Timetable

I thought there was an old thread about this but went a few pages back and couldn't find it. This must be some wicked groin strange. Is he skating? Anybody know the deal?

Your guess is as good as ours. He's been on the IL longer than expected and didn't make the trip to Florida with the boys.

Islanders-Twitter said the following on 18th October:

"On the status of Jurcina and Niederreiter, Capuano said both are day-to-day and coming along. #isles"

The team probably wanted to take their time with both, trying to be extra careful this year with injuries. Trying to make sure we don't get hit hard by the injury fairy this year. At least that's my guess.

Since they gave fake (too short) estimates of return for Streit last season, I would not be surprised if they say that he is coming back soon, even though they know exactly that it will take a while.

Wasn't Doug Weight last year "day to day" also?

Careful with injuries.....and Rick is on the trip.

Well, I'd want him to retire if I was the owner - except for the fact that the ick is insured almost half personally by Wang.

It seems that he's still not practicing with the team.

He must be going on nearly a month now, hope it doesn't take too much longer. Groin strains are funny though, you can feel 100% in everything you do until you take a stride on the ice and it's awful.

I'm getting anxious to see him in action.

I know this is like putting salt in the wound, but his stride and mode of skating will probably lead to groin-related issues every now and again.

Definitely unnerving.

I really want to see him in the lineup. If I was Cappy I would try to shake things up a bit by dropping KO down to the 3rd line to play with Bailey, who he's had success with, and Martin, and put Nino on the 2nd line wing with Frans and Grabner. Maybe drop Rolston down to the 4th with Reasoner and Comeau. I think KO is better than a 3rd liner but if that line clicks we can roll them out as line 2-B.

Hopefully that can give us some balanced scoring. That all-Euro line(Nino-Frans-Grabner) could be fun to watch offensively, and that Martin-Bailey-Okposo line should be a pretty intense line to play against as well.

From the Isles-Twitter:

Quote:
No morning skate today but two players are on the ice with coaches...Nino Niederreiter and Trevor Gillies. #isles
It's a good idea to wait until he's fully fit. Doesn't help him or the Isles if he plays a game and then is injured again.

I think we will be a good 15 games in before we see Nino.

#Isles practice at Iceworks today. Nino Niederreiter skating with Moulson and Parenteau. Tavares not on the ice.
Isles-Twitter. Seems that the comeback comes nearer.

Regardless of age, any player can be sent down to the AHL or ECHL for that matter I guess, if they have been on the IR. Its a conditioning assignment, meaning get their legs back under them before the ****-storm that is NHL hitting.

Edit: I think for two weeks max, though, don't quote me on that.
