Spezza is like Alfie in that he deserves to be in the discussing for the Hart Trophy, but is likely (IMO) to be overlooked, for any number of reason. Mostly because he plays with the Sens, and our players generally don't get the respect to win personal accolades, even if they are the most deserving person.

That said, the Spezdispenser was on tonight, 3 assists. Wish I could have watched the game, but it was pretty cool to listen on the Team 1200. =D

Wait... Is this the same Jason Spezza who's second in league scoring?!

Umm Spezza's great and all but don't let Sens homerism blind you to the person who's first in league scoring...

Arguing for anyone other then Malkin for the Hart is kind of foolish at this point.

That said if Spezza keeps it up and Malkin falters down the stretch then MAYBE Spezza will become most deserving of the Hart (doesn't mean he'll win).

My Sens "fan" friends were in total disagreement with me when I would constantly defend Spezza, they kept on spewing stuff like "he should be traded" and "he's not the right guy to lead the team after Alfie retires".

I don't even want to imagine what this team would be like without him. If he keeps up his current pace, he should easily make it into the conversation for the Hart (obviously Malkin's the likely favourite at this point).

Hopefully the next player to make it to 1,000 games all in a Sens uniform

This x1000 gah one of the persons i have season tickets with was arguing with me THIS season how we should've traded Spezza at last years deadline . Ya Peter Regin as our #1 center going into the season is a good idea.

Actually come to think of it, those people remind me of the trade Alfredsson crowd back in 2004. Craig Conroy would've lead us to multiple Stanley Cup finals obviously.

Spezza's a great player. The guy is playing some of the best hockey of his career right now. Didn't know he was 2nd in the scoring race though.

I'm not sayin'...but I'm just sayin'.

I still suspect I will constantly have to defend this player until the end of time on this board, and the main.

But guys...there are 10 centres MoO would take over him.

Still don't understand this. What is bad karma about saying that 'IF' Ottawa makes the playoffs that I 'could' see Spezza as a contender for the Hart and Art Ross?

You could argue that malkin has a better team even without crosby...which makes it closer.

It's not really close. Malkin should win the Hart and Art Ross unless something changes drastically in the upcoming months.

I agree with this, but given that the Hart is supposed to be awarded to the player most valuable to his own team, Spezza has to be one of the three nominees.

Without him the sens are pretty much a lottery team.

Yep. Pretty much. I would be very shocked if Spezza continues to play the way that he has and doesn't get a hart nomination (if Ottawa makes the playoffs.)

Yeah...MoO loves to do things like that and then act like he is never wrong and tries to constantly discredit others.

However I digress. I'm just glad Spezza is getting recognition.

How is Spezza Alfie? And for the bolded, I don't believe you. Do you have any examples?

Spezza shouldn't be in the discussion for the Hart. Unless top 10 is "in the discussion". Malkin, Giroux, Stamkos, Karlsson, Weber, Lundqvist, Elliott and Quick all deserve it more.
