He's definitely had his issues with conditioning and like others have said seems to be fragile, mentally. I don't think anyone saw this coming. I hope the guy doesn't have any off ice issues or injuries. Whatever is going on has completely altered his game.

I understand Comeau hasn't been good (0 points in 16 games), but this move really makes no sense to me. He's got decent size, is only 25, and coming off a 24-goal, 46 point season, isn't it a little early to out-and-out give up on him? All around the league you have guys having disappointing seasons (and these are often guys that didn't put up 24 goals last season!) and teams seem to be giving these guys time and opportunity to work through their slumps. Why don't the Islanders do the same with Comeau?

I've gotten the feeling for a long time that the organization and Comeau flat-out do not see eye-to-eye. Even last year's breakthrough season came after he was a healthy scratch early on, if memory serves. Just seems like when you're a struggling team that's nowhere near the cap that it would make sense to put Comeau in a position to try and find some consistency and value, rather than playing him once on the third line, sitting him out for a few, putting him back on the third, sitting him out some more, than waiving him?

Also, Bob McKenzie just tweeted that Nashville has put Niclas Berfors on $125 unconditional waivers, meaning that if he clears, Nashville and Bergfors will mutually agree to terminate his contract.

I can't see Comeau clearing waivers at all. A lot of teams would be improved with him in their bottom 6.

But apparently the team felt otherwise. Although it is entirely plausible that a deal simply wasn't there.

You can't keep playing a guy that contributes nothing to an already inept lineup. They have enough of them with Rolston, Pandolfo, and Reasoner.

He doesn't hit anymore, and his defense has gotten considerably worse.

Yeah it's 16 games, but there's no signs of any progress.

I think Columbus claims Comeau. They have nothing to lose.

Isn't/wasn't Bergfors good? Can he be claimed by other teams?

He already cleared waivers once yesterday, he could be claimed today, but it's highly unlikely that occurs.

A player with zero points and a -11 could step right in on your top six? Ouch...

I doubt Comeau gets claimed, if teams wanted him so much they could've just sent the Isles a 7th or something. i seriously doubt teams are lining up to claim him

Our top 6 is set, Cogs has filled that left wing role and has been excellent.

If we were to claim him, which is unlikely as I believe we're at the contract limit, he'd be playing 3rd line for sure.

NSH might be an option. Rangers also need a LW.

Can't argue with that...

A team like Ottawa would have been perfect in the summer, but as of right now, we've filled the spots with players who are working their tails off and finding success as a unit, I doubt we make a claim (although I wanted to for sure).

What a strange feeling it was going on Twitter and seeing Blake Comeau as a trending topic. I used to be his neighbor when I was in high school and he was around 14 or so. Just kind of surreal to see someone you know as a trending topic.

I highly doubt that Comeau would pass.. Someone will give him a chance, like Ottawa and i can think of at least 5 other teams that could go for it.

But we'll see.. Suprised if no one picks him up.

Is Comeau an LW or RW?

If he plays on the left, the Jets might make a claim. Ladd, Kane and Glass are our only natural LWs.

I think he'll clear waivers because every time HF says "player X won't clear" / "he'll get claimed for sure" .. They always clear.

I wouldn't mind the Blues taking a flyer on Comeau, were we to have a place for him to play.

I don't disagree, but I think Comeau is an exception.

Not often do 25-year old players coming off a ~25 goal, ~50 point season (for a basement team) get waived.

But doesn't the fact he's getting waived by a basement team raise huge flags?

Absolutely no way Comeau makes it through. He'll get picked up for sure.
