Any new info on Polushin? Is he injured or just a healthy scratch because of nhl'ers? and does anyone think we'll sign But, or has his clock run out with tampa?

I don't think But will be signed. Word is that both But and Polushin won't sign two-way contracts, and Feaster typically won't bring over Euros on a one-way deal that aren't guaranteed to crack a Stanley Cup Champion lineup.

Plus, the financial picture between the NHL and the RSL is very murky right now in lieu of an IIHF agreement. Historically, Tampa's track record with Rick Dudley's Russian prospects isn't that stellar, which adds to the trepidation the Feaster regime obviously is experiencing. And speaking of the Feaster regime, it is also obvious that Feaster and Bill Barber prefer the North American player to the European player (and in particular WHL'ers) as opposed to the Euro-centric Rick Dudley.

The organization all but told me not to expect to see Anton But in a Lightning uniform and cast much doubts on Alex Polushin's chances as well.

IMO, with the Lightning's serious lack of top-end skill up front, Jay can't afford to play the part of the spurned lover
That's what he's already doing with Polushin and But though, isn't it?

I like Jay, but it seems to me he does hold some grudges against prospects who ask for more dough. It'll be interesting to see if Hrdel and Coleman's (if they sign him) agents try to get a significant upgrade in pay over 8th and 9th round picks and if Jay is willing to go there or just walk away.

Yeah... maybe. But, honestly, not counting their performance thus far this season, would you have brought either But or Polushin over on a one-way deal?

He's a hardliner that's for sure. But, then again, he has his soft moments too with the Holmqvist deal and the 500k signing bonus he gave Artukhin. It'll be interesting to watch what happens next summer with these guys.

I really hope something gets done with Polushin, though.

Depends on how much the one-way is (especially in But's case, I don't believe you get Polushin in on a low number). If they were willing to give Somervuori 200k on the DOWNside of a two-way, would it kill Jay to give But 350k on a one-year one-way and a signing bonus? Would But then take that?

Depending on how the CBA turns out (if indeed there is a hard cap severly dropping the average NHL salary), we could see a swing back to the 70's in that the NHL becomes more of a North American dominated (85-15) league and Euros simply choose to play in their own respective country for the same or a little less pay.

That could set up one heckuva Champions-league type tournament in June, but that's another topic.

Its been like pulling teeth sometimes just for the league to do the Olympics and World Cup. Its probably wishful thinking for them to do a club team tourney like this... especially because the NHL won't want to admit anything close to parity with the rest of the world's leagues.

Eero Somervuori still tied for 5th in the SM-liiga in scoring with 11 goals and 26 points in 31 games. He also is tied for 6th in the league in +/- at +13.

Anton But is 6th in the Superleague in scoring with 8 goals and 23 points in 33 games. He's currently bracketed by Alexey Morozov (24 points) and Nikolai Zherdev and Alexander Ovechkin (22 points each). That company doesn't suck.

Russia is now off until 12/22 for the Baltica Cup.

Baltica Cup has been renamed the Rosno Cup... rosters for 3 of 4 countries are up.

Vaclav Prospal off for Czech Republic. Eero Somervuori off for Finland. Fredrik Norrena on for Finland. Jimmie Olvestad added for Sweden.

Russia's should be out soon.

Fredrik Norrena has been in an astounding form the last two years. I´d chose him over Miika Kiprusoff anyday of the week. If Tampa doesn´t sign him, it is their lost. And he´s maybe the best goalkeeper in the world with his stick, his vision is amazing and passes as well, he outclasses at least Brodeur and Turco on that point. And he is of course not on Brodeurs level overall, but with margin better than Turco.

Thanks aonez, very interesting to hear this from someone who's probably seen him a lot. As you can tell, several of us would like to see him signed as well.

Don't tell Flames fans that, or you'd never hear the end of it!

Yep, that's confirmed, and Molot Perm got waffled 8-1 today without him.

Kazionov scored a goal in garbage time in a 6-1 win. 8 points in 23 games looks like he will have a modest but solid improvement over 11 in 47 last season. Good. Get him to NA on the Falcons for some real developing. Affy had 2 assists by the way. Where's TBFAN when you need him?

Lecavalier had 2 assists today in a 6-5 OT win against CSKA. Polushin played, a little.

Our collective dream of icing the all Siberian line is quickly fading.

Remember this: Commitment to Russia makes Dudley feel proud

Al Davis has his Commitment to Excellence, Dudley has Commitment to Russia.

Glad it all worked out for us.

Christmas Eve in Russia:

Vinny gets 1 assists in a 7-3 Ak Bars shellacking of Molot Perm.

Anton But scores both goals in a 2-1 win over Khimik. He now has 10-15-25 in 36 games, which ranks him 7th in the Superleague wedged between Zherdev and Semin.

CSKA slaps Nizhnekamsk 5-3. Polushin DNP.

Togliatti stomps Dynamo 4-0. Afanasenkov with an assist. Kazionov and Vishnyakov scoreless for their respective sides.

Eero Somervuori 10th in the SM-liiga in scoring with 11-15-26 in 32 games. Tied for 8th in +/- at +13.

Karri Ramo with a 4.21 GAA and .880 sv% at the SM-liiga level. He's 1-1 this December at the Jr A level as he's splitting time between both teams.

Fredrik Norrena second in the Elitserian with a .935 sv% and 1.78 GAA. He's actually got Linkopings at second place in the standings. Well there you have it: a veteran goaltender who has proven he can win games for an inexperienced young team and help carry them up to the promised land. I know a certain town in Massachussetts that skill might come in handy.

Jimmie Olvestad 2-5-7 in 25 GP. Dan Boyle, by comparison, already has 4-2-6 in 10 games, both for Djurgardens.

Johan Hagglund with 6-6-12 in 30 games for Hammarby in the Alsvenskan. +11 puts him at 16th in the Alsevenskan Sodra in +/-. Just under 33% on faceoffs though. Yuck.

An impressive start of the spring season with the pros by Rämö. First 23/24 in the last 20 mins of a 0-5 defeat, now 30/31 in the team's third regulation victory of the season.
