In Finnish League today, Pelicans (last in standings) won Jokerit (first in standings) 4-3 in Helsinki.

Karri Rämö (drafted last summer) had amazing 58 saves in Pelicans net.

When he gets to NA, and if we put him down there, he's going to think the ECHL is light duty.

Another CEB update. CEB 6-0 Boxscore
***Sigh**** Seeing Prospal get 4 assists is okay, but when the other names aren't, Vinny L., StLouis, Richards, Modin, Andreychuk etc., it just doesn't ..... oh well.

Most annoying. I was ready to buy a #20 Prospal jersey and he became a Duck. He's coming back, I was ready again to buy one when he answered my question that he'd definitely be wearing #20 again and... lockout. Oh, well, I've got a $100 gift certificate that's good until Christmas 2006, maybe I'll get to use it on that jersey by then...

Gawd I miss hockey.

In short Yes! He's leading both his time and the league by quite a bit.

I do too, but I'm also disgusted with everyone involved. I've cancelled what was left of my remaining tickets our here in CA. A futile gesture but it made me feel better.

I haven't decided what to do yet. I'm earning 10% interest in "Palace Bucks," which will come in handy (if we ever play again). If I get a full refund, I lose my seat designation, so I guess I'll leave at least enough with the team to hold onto that, we've worked too many years to get all our seats together to risk losing them.

(OK, we've gotten off topic, back to European hockey!)

Karri Rämö again amazing. He had 42 saves tonight when Pelicans won Tappara Tampere 2-1 in Tampere. Tappara`s goalie had only 16 saves.

Pelicans Lahti is definitely the weakest team in SM-league with difficult financial problems. Still two wins this weeks and major part was played by Rämö.

This kid may become something...

Actually, he shut Tappara out 2-0.

Compare his Junior A numbers to Tuukka Rask's. Its very interesting.

When I saw him in TC Karri Ramo had skill, but he was really lacking footspeed. Maybe that is something he has been improving on since the begining of the season? Would that be true?

The way I saw it last year, he lacked technique and the ability to read plays, which is a bad combination as it hints of faults in mental abilities instead of simple motorics. Now it seems that he has patched up both of those weaknesses completely, i.e. they have caught up with the rest of his development. Rämö still has holes, which showed themselves better in the fall season, in his performance, but just a glance at his birthdate should be enough to dispel all worries.

When it turned out that the team's previous starter Markus Helanen's injury would take more time to heal than originally diagnosed, Pelicans temporarily acquired the services of Dave Stathos, earlier a starter for IFK. Now it looks like Stathos will be spending more time on the bench than expected.

He lost 5-0 today to JYP. It sounds bad, but he actually played pretty well.

Through two periods his team was being outshot 33-10 and yet he held it to 2-0 going into the final frame. When you're getting peppered like that though, eventually they're going to get to you and he ended up stopping 43 of 48.

The Pelicans REALLY suck... and he is to be commended for holding them into a game where they were being outshot by more than a 3 to 1 margin after 2.

Karri Ramo got the Pelicans into OT at 1-1 today before allowing the GWG to Hal Gill in the final frame. He stopped 29 of 31 and was named second star of the game.

He has a .918 sv% and 3.26 GAA.

How about a little game of With/Without?

WITH Karri Ramo the Pelicans lost 2-1 in OT to Lukko.

WITHOUT Karri Ramo the Pelicans lost today 9-1 to TPS.

Two opponents with now an identical amount of points in the standings. Two very different results.

The Pelicans are now a -92 in goal differential for the season. The next worst team is -41. They stink on toast.

It wasn't TPS, it was HPK, the team with the most goals per game in the league. Everybody knows that teams perform inconsistently. I'd say Stathos would've given up 3-4 goals to Lukko, Rämö 6-8 to HPK.

I stand corrected and yes that makes a difference. HPK is one of the three elite teams in the SM-liiga this season along with Jokerit and Karpat. The rest of the league lags behind those three.

Even though he hasn't played down there in a while, because Tuukka Rask's play has tailed off a little recently, Kari Ramo is now the leader in sv% in Finnish Jr A.

Ramo's been selected to play for Finland's U-19 side in the upcoming 5 Nations tournament in Sweden that starts next week.
