The interesting potential irony is (although not yet confirmed) is that CEB told Vaclav Prospal that "there's no room for you" back in 1993.

Yesterday in Russia:

Dynamo-3
Omsk-1

Vishnyakov DNP. Jaromir Jagr's Omsk season ends, leaving him to parouse the over/under lines on the upcoming baseball season with his bookie.

Hell bent to lose another few million bucks, I hear he's playing the over on the Rays.

Dynamo advances to play in the finals against Lada Togliatti where burning questions will be answered:

-Will Vishnyakov, Kazionov or Koshechkin ever get to play in these playoffs?
-Will Dimitry Afanasenkov get a point in these playoffs?
-Did Alexander Ovechkin trade a case of vodka to a cosmonaut to get his visor?

All will be revealed...

I forgot to update the Finnish finals:

Sunday Karpat beat Jokerit 2-0 to win the series 3-1. Eero Somervuori did not score in any of the 4 games of the series and is now slated to move on to a team in Switzerland next season (Lausanne if my memory serves) barring some kind of deal to come back to NA.

I was very disappointed with his 2nd half and playoffs. He busted his butt so hard to finally earn that contract from the Lightning two years ago and looked on the verge of becoming an NHLer but it seems to me he's coasted since then. Given my druthers, a guy like But takes priority over Somervuori every day of the week and twice on Sundays in terms of bringing in a potential vet scoring prospect from Europe for Springfield.

A couple of transfers:

Somervuori from Karpat to Ambri-Piotta in Switzerland was already widely known.

Hagglund from Hammarby to IK Oskarshamn. So basically Hagglund goes from one good Alsvenskan team to another. Hopefully he can get more time on the top two lines than he did with Hammarby.

Holmqvist returns to Sweden

Pete,

Can you verify that Andreas Holmqvist has re-signed with Linkoping HC, thus dashing whatever glimmer of hope remained for salvaging anything from Dudley's horrendous Aucoin trade?

The transfer's not yet listed on eurohockey.net or Linkopings' site...

This is the Swedish newspaper article though:

http://www.expressen.se/index.jsp?a=269379

Both he and his brother have allegedly signed up to play for Linkopings next season.

Well, Andreas Holmqvist obviously wasn't ready for NA when he arrived. Is he still a part of Lightning's future?

If he has signed in the SEL it would be really fun to see what he could do next season, if he has developed anything in NA.

Under the old CBA I think the economics of giving Holmqvist a Q-offer might not have made sense. Under the new one? God knows... but I'm thinking the Lightning may just let Andreas walk.

According to my translator, the key word is "allegedly", because the paper couldn't get either side to confirm. Possibly this is only because Holmqvist is still technically under contract until June 30.

The online translator I used said allegedly also, plus there was a quote from Michael Holmquist which basically translated to say he said 'where did you get that info, we are still under contract to the NHL until July". Another pragraph talked about Michael having a special contract that he could get out of if there was an NHL season but Andreas had the "common" contract which leads me to believe if the rumor is true, he wouldn't be returning to the U.S. to play hockey.

I'm about a month late on this transfer but...

http://www.hpk.fi/service/gpublisher...eid=413&news=1

Karri Ramo has moved from Pelicans to HPK.

As their roster stands now he would be splitting time with Miika Wiikman who is only a couple of years older than he is but who had decent numbers.

That'd be a good situation. HPK did a good job cultivating Toivonen in the recent past... so I like this move for Ramo's future. I also think it sends the signal that he will probably stay in Finland next year, so the other big winners could be Boutin and Coleman.

Then again maybe they're still searching for a veteran... one of the HPK fans might be able to tell us if they are. That's my initial read though.
