I've watched a few Leaf games this season and their puck luck is unbelievable. Their games are sloppy and ugly but the goals seem to come.

Please, it's the leafs were talking about here. Give them time and i'm sure they will find some way to screw this up.

How long can a team be this bad and continue to win. They keep winning it's gonna be near impossible to miss the playoffs.

The Leafs have had a nice start with alot of positive things going their way but lets wait and see how they respond after a 3-4 game losing streak hits them..

I will give them some credit though.. They are atleast taking advantage of some struggling teams to start the season and are winning those games.

I was just thinking about this last night. I may sound a bad sport, but the Laffs goal differential is like 1 , maybe 4 now, and they keep winning.

Kessel, and loads of luck. Have to say it. This has been a really lucky team. What is the team shooting %?

This will not last. When K slows, and they run out of luck, they'll take a beating.

They are just not this good. Sorry to be a bad sport, but true.

If the Laffs somehow ended up in position of playing the Habs in the playoffs...

I know most don't want to hear this, but I said it yesterday and I honestly think they are legit and will be fighting for a playoffs spot at the end of the season. They are going to win tonight and have Boston at home Saturday, should be interesting
Boston will wreck them...again.

So I guess it s official now, you can stop and go in the shootouts, otherwise there s no way they would ve let that Briere goal.

Come on, Thomas is so technically flawed thats pathetic to see some nights.. He is a warrior, he fights every night but give him an average team like the Bruins are so far this year and he will look like the average goaltender he really is.. He is making my top 5 cause of the fantastic season the Bruins and himself had last year but could fall out of my list quick enough.. Who would you rather have in the net for the Habs, Price or Thomas? Im pretty sure you go ask the same question on the Preds board, Thomas or Rinne and they will all start laughing..
Appreciate the explanation but I still think it's ludicrous. Who gives a **** if a goalie has an "unorthodox style" if he wins the Vezina twice, the Conn Smythe, and the Stanley Cup? I mean, come on.

I love how RDS' main article right now, concerning the Leafs, is "Pas un feu de paille" (not a flash in the pan).

Yes, they've been impressive. But come on. They just beat the Jackets, of all team. How does that prove anything?

You know as much as me that when a team win the cup and no players particulary stand out offensively, the goalie is logically the one awarded with the Conny Smythe.. Do you think Thomas was particulary bright in the last Stanley cup run? Price has been better in the Habs Bruins serie, Roloson has been better in the Bolts Bruins serie, hasnt stole a game on the road in the stanley cup finale while the Bruins quite outplayed the Nucks at home and would have won any of those game with the worst goaltender of the league in net.. Still, Thomas' numbers were impressive during the season but he still played 15 games less than a guy like Price who had to save our ass night after night to make the playoffs.. Julien had the luxury to use him properly since the Bruins were easily one of the toughest teams to face night after night, a strong systematic team built to play on the road..

Osgood won 3 Stanley cup having a machine playing in front of him, does it make him a super goaltender? Im not saying the Bruins of last year were a powerhouse, Im only saying they were built to play tough and tight hockey with low scoring, what surely helped Thomas to get such numbers..

I will ask you the question once again, would you pick Thomas over guys like Rinne Price Miller Lunqvist if you had to build a team for this year? Im not even talking about the age factor, just to rank who you would pick for the current season? Personally I dont think Thomas is part of the cream of this league, he is a good and respectable vet goaltender who fights hard in his net, but he is a notch below the elite of this league.. Just lets imagine Thomas in a Habs jersey.. do you like the idea? Would become the no.1 target of the fans and medias, cause fighting hard isnt enough in MTL, it takes a super humain to keeps the net here.. The day we have a strong line-up playing in front of Price, the reccords will come fast enough..

Just got back from campus and I had 7 leaf fans jumping around as if the rapture had arrived because they were beating Columbus. BTW, I don't think some of them (all the girls and a few guys) could name the teams in our division. Right now it's just
-Leafs are the best
-Habs suck cuz we're at the bottom
-Cup is imminent and so what if it's not, f u Habs fan, your team is horrible

First I tried to explain the, what are they called, oh yeah....facts. Then the tendency for the Leafs to always go on streaks and then flop, then the crazy "unmaintainable stats" they have, then I just swore at them in French.

May we please unleash a 10-0 bruising of them next time. Hopefully by then they'll have been losing. I would say the rivalry IS back. It's mostly due to fans and now they DO believe their team is better than us (before it was just jealousy). I'm going to hope the boys continue this streak for awhile until we're decently above .500. Key to success: don't do what we always do and lose to the teams we should be beating. We would have so many more points in the last few seasons if we did this.

BTW, the corollary to the Leafs always have an amazing second half, is that they usually have an abysmal first one. So, it's just as likely that they will have an awful second half as it is that they've had a good first half (still not close to half, but you know what I mean).

There's no way the Leafs can keep up their shooting percentage. Not including tonight's game they are shooting at 11.6% 5 on 5 and at 18.7% 5 on 4. If those lasted over a whole season, which they won't, they would be the best shooting team at both 5 on 5 and 5 on 4 in the last 5 seasons.

I would expect a severe correction at some point and if they aren't able to generate more shots then it won't be pretty.

Columbus beat Detroit, we lost to Florida, and now the Senators are above us in the rankings.

A win is a win.

So...Pekka Rinne signs a 7 year/$49 million contract, then goes on to record a shutout.

Best. Birthday. Ever?

completely agreed, i hate the leafs as much as the next guy, but no one can deny how burke has transformed that team, and right now, theyre playing like it

i think they are a playoff team.

That's not my point though. Like I said, the Leafs are doing good. I just find the timing of the whole "proclamation" that the Leafs are for real weird. It's not like the beat Washington.

There's a topic on the Leafs board that explains that right now, a lot of stats make the Leafs look like bottom-feeders. Right now, MacArthur's shot% is 35, Lupul and Kessel are above 20... That's insane. They don't look dominant on the ice as they do on the scoreboard.

I don't want to hate on the Leafs. On paper, they don't look that good. On the ice, they don't look that good. Soon enough, things will "normalize" themselves. I just think it's too early to call them the best team in the East, or "for real".

If they keep this record going until the midseason, I'll give them credit. For now, all this is is a hot start.

Guys,

I have a confession to make... 1 day before the season started, my buddy and I (along with a bottle of whiskey) decided to play NHL12. We figured, what is the ultimate challenge?? For the sake of it, we entered playoff mode as the Leafs, and actually won the cup...

I'm pretty sure we unlocked a curse or something...
