I was going through old RLR articles/rankings and I came across their pre draft list of best goalies available. They had Price 2, Rask 3 behind JP Levasseur, who I may have heard of but I don't remember anything about.
Any reason why he was ranked so high by RLR and went so low in the draft?
The RLR article you linked to says it right there.
He got playing time in the first half of his draft year and then Rouyn-Noranda picked up Sylvain Michaud for the second half of the year and Levasseur didn't get the starts.
Of course the other bit would be that, as can be seen from his hockey career since draft compared to the other guys that Red Line listed, Levasseur simply wasn't that good.
Woodlief himself admits in the article linked that putting Levasseur as the top goalie was going against the grain. In retrospect, it wasn't just against popular opinion, it was also incorrect. As can be seen from the draft and the subsequent play of all those goaltenders, it looks like NHL scouts were quite a bit better at rating that year's goaltending class than Redline was.
Between Levasseur, Pelletier and Vincent....it was a pretty crummy year for QMJHL net minders.
