Sutton gets 5 game suspension for hit on Landeskog

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=598468

Quote:
NEW YORK -- Edmonton Oilers defenseman Andy Sutton has been suspended, without pay, for five games for delivering an illegal hit to the head of Colorado Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog during NHL Game No. 138 Friday night in Denver, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Sutton will forfeit $57,432.45. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 3:23 of the third period. Sutton was assessed a minor penalty for elbowing.

Sutton missed Sunday’s game vs. St. Louis and will miss games Nov. 3 at Los Angeles, Nov. 5 at Phoenix, Nov. 8 at Montreal and Nov. 10 at Boston. He will be eligible to return Nov. 11 at Detroit.

For a full explanation of the decision, complete with video, please click on the following link: http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/con...d=60&id=131979.

Suspension lengh is brutal in contrast to how non violent the hit was.

Are you kidding me? He would hit a 19 year old kid in the head again? Even when its against the rules and could possibly cause a concussion? Get him out of the league, now.

after watiching the hit i am ok with that... i think if he umbergered him he would get away without a suspension but instead he drives by and gives him a "high" hit, this way it looks cheaper than it actually is.

Landy came out and said he should of kept his head up. It's good to see young guys admitting they could avoid this stuff but thank god he wasn't killed like Savard, Crosby or Lindros.

Stop saying "hit a 19 yo kid" I hate that, hes in the NHL, he doesnt expect any special treatment and if he does then he doesnt belong in the NHL. When people came at Kaleta for "picking on a 19 yo kid" I was livid because why should it matter if you are young or old or big or small? Your in the NHL so man up.

The main reason they should stop saying 19 year old kid is because Landeskog is 18 years old.

He restates what is said in the video (re: it being an illegal hit to the head) by the most relevant expert in the world and you ask him whether or not he is an expert.

Awful.

What a joke. Clean hit. Landeskog had his head down and Sutton is just a big guy. This gets 5 games and Wolski gets nothing.
