The New Boudreau

We've seen a Boudreau attempting to truly reward work, rather than talent. There are numerous 'messages' being sent. The most recent was benching Ovie for the final minute and a half of tonights game against Anaheim when trailing by one. The Caps won.

Anyone change their mind on if Boudreau can get them to the promised land? I was one of the people calling for his head after the sweep... I like this development, at least.

This is not a fabrication: I clicked on the thread title and immediately remembered that I have some Haagen-Dazs in the freezer. I'm serious, this just happened.

He's a good coach, you don't have a winning percentage like that if you're a bad coach. I don't think that he's to blame as much as the players for their playoff losses. I was a little surprised he still had his job after this year though.

Uh.. what? He gets no respect because the Capitals can't beat anybody but the Rangers in the playoffs. I don't know what everybody missing the entire season and the Caps winning the East has to do with anything, because the Caps have never come close to winning the East and they've never been that badly injured.

I think Boudreau recognizes he has nothing to lose at this point. He's getting fired if he doesn't take this team to a Stanley Cup or a mega-run in the playoffs.

So he might as well do it his way this year and not cater to anyone. Seems to be a logical mindset for him.

This man won over two thirds of the regular season games he coached for the Red Wings, you have enough talent the players can win lots of regular season games by themselves. It's the playoffs that coaching really matters for.

yeah, but that team didn't have a god-awful winning % when he was hired. Sometimes people seem to forget just how bad the Caps were before BB was fired.

A similar thread was started last year when the caps started playing defense. I'll believe in BB when he proves it in the playoffs, until then he's still the whiniest and most unlike able coach in the NHL. Hell even if he wins he's still a douch.

reading must not be your strength, what i said he wont get respect until the caps win in the playoffsn and by winning in the east i meant the regular season standings which they have done twice

Rightfully so.

Play-offs are ten times more important than the regular season.

Boudreau never had a problem sending a message. I don't get why this makes an extremely average coach all of a sudden something new.

For me to give him credit he must:
1. Not be severely outcoached in the playoffs like he always is
2. Keep his team to the system (when panic sets in, everyone just gives up on his "system" and ovi just tries to do everything alone.
3. Not lose to vastly inferior teams every playoffs.

If I'm a Caps fan, I LOVE it. Surprised he didn't do this in previous years, but perhaps he reasoned that his top players were too young and fragile mentally and would react poorly. (Perhaps he did send such messages in the past, just not as overtly.) Now, while they are still young, his core is comprised of veterans...veterans who have underachieved in the season that matters.

Moves like tonight send a clear message: it's on them, entirely. No BS, no excuses. If he can sit AO, he can sit anyone. I'm kind of getting the vibe that Boudreau (of whom I've never been a big fan) is in lockdown mode, al a Keenan his one historic season in Manhattan. Taking no prisoners, no BS from Day One this season.

Cup or bust.

For if it's the latter, he's gone, as will be one or two of the Caps pretty boy stars.

I like it. His team needs it. And they are reacting well, through one month...albeit five long months before the real test begins for them.

LOL

Anyways, I think he's underrated on these forums. There's a ton of variance in the playoffs (just look at how both the Canucks and Bruins were a couple bounces away from being knocked out).

Except everytime the Caps lose it isn't from " a couple of bounces" it's from being outplayed and outcoached every year
