Here's what Boudreau said on Ovechkin's benching during the Caps OT win vs. the Ducks last night:
"I thought other guys were better than him and there was just a chance other guys might score the goal," Boudreau said. "Ninety-nine percent of the time Alex is the guy I think is going to score the goal. I just didn't think he was going to score the goal at that time tonight. You go with your gut feeling. I got lucky."
The Caps did win but should Boudreau ever bench a 2X MVP like that during a time like that?
He was on the ice for the game winning goal, the puck went right off his foot to Backstrom. He was benched with Vokoun pulled and the Caps scored. It might have had something to do with him trying to skate through a defender all by himself while the Caps had a 3 on 2 on a late game PP while down a goal. Really selfish and stupid move on his part.
