Your Draft Grades

Hey guys I just have to say that this draft has been one of the best drafts we have done in quite some time!. I just want everyone's opinion on the results we had this yr with our picks. The overall grade I have for this yr is an A because we have potentially 3 first rounder drafted this yr.

Is there anyone you wished we drafted instead or surprised we got? I thought Thrower was the biggest surprise as he was STILL available when we picked him,

Definitely an A. Our first 4 picks are perfect and Hudon is a solid one too IMO.

Perfect draft.

The things I'm hearing about Nystrom is really encouraging. Hudon may be our worst pick, and I still really like him.

I agree with this. Also our great defensive drafting in the previous years opened up lots of offensive doors here.

A-.

Would have hoped for a goaltending prospect and Kevin Roy but otherwise, Montreal has one exciting future.

A

Lot of people are saying we are the winners of this draft and i tend to agree. The 4 first picks of Galchenyuk , Collberg , Thrower and Bozon are awesome. Not very high on Hudon and know nothing of Nystrom but i have no issues with taking a chance on those guys at #5 and #6 since the 4 firsts picks make up for it.

I was scared about picking TT at #3 yesterday but now i can say that im an happy camper.

It's definitely an exciting time to be a Habs fan.

At first glance, it's obvious to me it's an "A"

Time will tell.

It seems to me that we won't know the true answer for 5 years...

Only then will we know it any Giroux's, Datsyk's, Zetterberg's, Quick's, or Lucic's, etc. were passed over.

The draft savants seem to be pleased, though.

Well it's too early to tell for sure but on paper it can't get much better than this.

Galchenyuk: A- [I know I'm harsh...but for such a high pick the risk factor is there, even if the reward is ridiculous in comparison]
Collberg: A
Thrower: A-
Bozon: A-
Vail: B
Hudon: C+
Nystrom: B

Overall: A

Most exciting draft since Timmins is with us. Obviously, some players will bust but we never had that may player with great upside like that.

Easy A...

I'll go with A- which for me is an awesome rating. Can't give more than that for different reasons.

I loved the first 3 picks. Loved it. Didn't have Collberg on my list 'cause I thought he was leaving 20. And I do like Bozon and Vail. Underwhelmed by Hudon but understand the pick. And don't know Nystrom so I can't say I'm glad, I don't know him, so as a fan, 'cause that how you judge, you also have to sya that you are underwhelmed by a guy you don't know if the head scout tells you he's great. So A+, for me, is a PERFECT draft. Which will probably....never happens yet, I keep the door open.

So the difference between A and A+? Well the last part of the draft and while we are enormously skilled, we did not get guys who were that big while being gifted. I like the Bozon pick, but if the kid doesn't learn to play in traffic and be more assertive, he won't be able to show his talent in the NHL. So maybe, just maybe, we could have went for a riskier pick like MacEachern or Calnan and try to get that size as well. But again, I don't hate the Bozon. He was on my list. We also weren,t able to grab a goalie, which maybe the Bozon pick could have become. Again, it's strongly possible that in the long run, the Bozon pick is what transform this draft into a A+draft.

And our inability to get a 7th round pick with still tons of interesting players out there.

So minor details, we did need some serious skills up front and we did. So we did address a weakness there. But aside from Thrower, there are no LA Kings type of player in there (obviously not talking about the stud that is Gally)

Yet, a very good draft and clearly amongst draft day winners.

If we didn't even have a first round pick, it still would have been a very good draft. Collberg, Thrower, Bozon and Hudon were all guys I really wanted.

But once you add in Galchenyuk to all of that...gotta be an A+, at least on paper. Time will tell if they were the right picks but today, I'm ecstatic.

If we compare our draft to the other team's drafts: A for sure. Top of the class.

Galchenyuk is the player I wanted with our top pick. Just that makes the draft. The next four are gravy. Good gravy.

I did not want Hudon. And I would had prefer Mallet or Paquette

I'm leaning A-.
Solid draft overall. Love the Galchenyuk selection, two very good selections in Round 2 with solid choices in the third and fourth rounds too.

Of course. People forget that Hugh Jessiman had "can't miss prospect" written all over him as a speedy super big power forward with soft hands.

The one thing Montreal fans should ask themselves is why so many of these Top 60 picks dropped and why was it Montreal picking them up?

That said, guys like Galchenyuk and Bozon fit the Canadiens organization like a glove in terms of needs and strengths. Brady Vail was an excellent pick, the kind of kid who keeps developing every game and could easily become a third line centerman who still puts up 40 points.

Last draft I thought this highly on a team on was the New York Islanders in 2008. That was mostly due to getting Kirill Petrov so high. He'll be an Islander once he's done in Russia and once he hits the NHL? It'll be huge for them.

it is funny how RDS wants montreal to draft more Quebecois , but the Quebecois dont give a **** about the Q and go play in the States .. Roy, Matteau , Matheson etc..

Bozon is definitely a perfect Montreal selection. He fills in needs, he has a ton of character, immense grit and his global background includes speaking French which will make him a favourite to the RDS nation.

I think much of his pick is based on personality and character as much as it has to do with his skill set. Bozon is the type of guy the Leafs or Senators usually grab up. Montreal is quite lucky to have him.

Relative to ranking :

Galchenyuk : A
Collberg : A+ (should have been gone 10 ranks before)
Thrower : A++ (should have been gone 25 ranks before)
Bozon : A (In range, but should really have been gone)
Vail : A- (In range, can't think of a better value at this point, and great pick since he's something of a safe bet. Was Roy gone?)
Hudon : A (Should have been gone since 1 round, logical round to be drafted was third, and should have been picked before Mallet, who might be bigger, but IMO has BARELY the skill of an AHL'er)
Nystrom : B (Nothing against the guy -- would have liked a goalie, though)

That's an A+ draft to me.
