1. Trade Tochkin and Ellington to Calgary for their first round pick
2. Draft Nail Yakupov
3. Worry about who we draft 30th overall later

outside of Yakupov, would you take Murray or Dumba?

I'd probably go with Murray.

Not sure who the Canucks could end up getting but a guy like Reinhart is all over the map in those NHL.Com mock drafts.

Griffin Reinhardt seems to be dropping fast right now. Not really a good sign. Personally I'd love one of swedish forwards, Forsberg (unlikely), Collberg and Åberg. They have some serious skills, but I doubt they'll be available when we draft, if we draft late 1st as hoped.

Man... Yakupov.

How is the draft looking this year? Is it considered deep?

Screw the cup, let's fail for Nail!

In all seriousness, would anyone here consider trading Schneider and/or Tanev to a team that will potentially tank this season? If we can even land a top 5-6 pick, I think it'll be a steal.

Yakupov, Dumba, Galchenyuk, Grigorenko, Pouliot, Marcantuoni

What a crazy bunch of names. I don't know how to like pronounce half of them...

From what I've read it's considered very deep. I've seen it compared to 2003 and 2008.

As great as it would be to get a top pick in this draft, I think the only way Gillis is trading Schneider is for a roster player that he believes will help us in the playoffs. Realistically, with our depth nobody drafted here will be making the team for at least 3 years, so its probably better to focus on something to help us right now

Yeah, I understand that Gillis wants to add someone who can help us right now... But some of these players are too good to pass up on if we don't need to part with our core guys.

I don't think gillis is going to trade Schneider this year at all to be honest.

But damn...would I like to see us get Yakupov.

It's deep in the sense that first ~15 picks are all bound to be gems, but there's a sharp decline from there and the forwards available from 20 to 60 are pretty piss poor, IMO.

So we may not benefit, in other words.

Unless we trade up. Not sure how often teams trade up way before a draft takes place.

Looks like Nick Ebert, D from Windsor is also in the dropping boat....

If I thought at the end of last season Ebert or Reinhart would be an option in the late 1st I would run to the stage at the draft for Gillis.

Piss poor?

Really?

To me it looks pretty similar to a usual draft after the 1st, but the top 35 prospects look pretty damn good to me...although I havent seen a single prospect in a live viewing.

Yakupov looks great, but I'd prefer MacKinnon or Monahan next year. This year where we'll be drafting I would love a big, tough North American winger or defenseman. Someone with top 4 or top 6 potential with good physicality. Something we lack.

If we could move up high enough i'd like Olli Maatta. I think drafting top 10 is likely unrealistic by Maatta might be there at 12.

My thoughts exactly. Preferably Reinhart. I love his size and the kid has a bit of a mean streak. The injury he suffered last year set him back a bit. I'd be surprised if he didn't go top 15 though.

I think it's more than obvious that Gillis is making a play for Yakupov and thats why they wouldn't give Booth #10. What more proof do you need?

I'd pass. He's small and he's Russian.

Yakupov is actually more like 5'11" or even 6'0" so he's not exactly small, plus he plays bigger than his size.

Relative to how it's being hyped, absolutely. I've had the "pleasure" of watching several of the CHL draft-eligible forwards and I'm yet to be impressed by anyone not named Yakupov or Grigorenko. Mattia Marcantuoni is ranked Top 10-15 almost everywhere and is having one of the most disappointing starts to the season of any prospect ranked that high in recent years, it only gets worse as you move down the list.

Don't get me wrong, the defensemen available are absolutely insane but the forwards... ? Ugh.
