One of the fan theories is that 007 is just a code name and James Bond can be a different guy. Which would mean each actor is a different person, using that codename.

Exactly. He is supposed to be a younger, more raw version of 007. Not yet refined, and smooth around the edges like the more vet bonds.

I read somewhere that a lot of the bonds occur in the same "universe" and that James Bond is simply a code name and the series is constantly going.

Agreed, I was hoping that this one would start with him on a beach drinking a martini. I want the Connery era Bond back.
Casino Royale was good, QS was average, nothing special.
Brosnan movies? First two were good. Third was alright. Forth, horrid.
There hasn't been a great Bond movie in a long time.
