I appreciate Steve Downie. Kid has the goods. Why would a team give UP a player like that?

3 pg. 2 goals. 3 assists. +5. 2 PIM. 12 SOG. 15:30 average time on ice.

What the hell, why didn't he play like this here?

----
Note: I know it's a small sample size, but three points in Detroit, bravo Downie!

I like Downie on the Avs but he was a replaceable player with moderate value, whereas other guys on the Lightning who could've also netted a 1st rounder are I assume part of the longer term. For a team that's presumably rebuilding, I feel like that makes some sense to trade away for the future, though I'm a little surprised that Yzerman didn't flip Downie over to the Kings or Canucks along with a pick/prospect for either Bernier or Schneider. I feel like that has more value in the longterm than a late 1st rounder.

We didn't have players like O'Reilly and Landeskog here, not surprised he has fit so good with similar players to him.

He couldn't keep up with Stammer here... well, barely nobody can do it, maybe Purcell and Marty

Kinda sad Downie's gone, I'll miss hating on him, and he and Gudbranson seemed to be having a cool rivalry starting up.

Just wait until the penalties keep piling up. I love the kid, but he has a rep.

Hes highly productive but needs to get his minutes. Boucher seemed reluctant to give him more than 12-13.

I think the most hilarious thing to come out of this trade is that now Downie has more fans. When he was with us it seemed like I was always sticking up for him to fans of other fan bases.

I love Downie and he's a really good player, and it's easy to see why when you look past the reputation and the hype...

FCAT is the worst thing to happen to Florida schools ever. Most pointless tests that tell you nothing about a kid's ability.

Should make the State Legislature take them. Bet they would all fail.

Indeed. The sad thing is teachers are made to teach the test and how to take it instead of actual subjects that might help kids later on. Fail.

Is it really that bad? What are they asking in the FCAT that isn't asked in "normal" tests?

Parks and Rec is okay but it would be better if they used Leslie less. She really drags down the show but nearly every other character is great.

Yes, they are really that bad...

It's more so that the school board puts so much into the results of these tests..it's nuts.

The schools funding depends on how their students do...Teachers pay will be determined by how their students do...because of this schools teach the test and only the test. It puts a ton of pressure of the kids to do well.

The test results from this one test are used to determine just about everything... If the student can't score a certain level on the test they can't pass to the next grade level.. Students like my son who is a smart kid he just doesn't do well on these types of test... So we have a hell of a time proving he did learn something and is ready for the next school level..

Just thinking about it makes me need a drink..

It seems way too common for kids now to have test anxiety seemingly because of the focus and pressure on the FCAT from the moment they start elementary school.

The posting frequency in this thread has gone way downhill. We must find ways to reinvent it and bring it back up to a high standard.

Thread anxiety.

As for a reinvention, how about a gritty reboot? 19/3 Begins?

I suggest reading every post, beginning with this one, spoken in a Batman rasp.

Why have I been hearing so much about Huey Lewis recently?

No, the titles leave much to be desired. I used to have the motivation of Marty but because of the titles I barely try as hard as Nikita Alexeev.

This is the Alex Kovalev of OT threads. These titles could be great, but the effort just isn't there.
