I started when the main GDT was at post #989 which is timestamped at 11:01 and posted this at 11:15. I have the template so it's not like I started from scratch.

Just a note on refs. That was a typical Leggo game. He manages to hang with other light calling refs on call count with frequently matching minors. If not for the matches, he would be far and away the lightest caller in the league. He rarely calls standalone obstruction even on infractions that would draw calls from 95% of the other refs in the league.

Great game

edit
I know this is probably the worst time to talk about it, but I've never been sold on Niemi

I counted at least 5 obvious non calls against the Pen's. Not as good as seeing them against the Sharks, but I was not happy.

Can I suggest closing the GDT's after the game and having a post game talk after? Kinda like this but..

The Jets board does it and it works well..

not trying to mod or anything lol.

Nem usually puts up post-game threads, but we keep posting in the GDTs. I dunno why, but I like it.

Keeping the GDT open helps confine the *****ing and moaning so that the real PG Notes thread is less negative.

Sharks have GOT to figure out their first period issues. They can't go the whole season winning games in the 3rd period alone. Also, start Greiss on Saturday and see what he does, then go from there. No reason to guarantee anyone anything this early on.

So... back to the 1-2 punch at center of Thornton and Marleau?

Fill in line mates.

Seriously, I'm in the same boat - I had originally picked Fleury, but I worked a trade to a pens fanatic for Havlat and Niemi as a package for flower so I couldn't pass that up.

I just noticed Boyle has 0 goals on 37 shots. I feel bad for the man, he's had some good looks so far, just not getting them in.

This is also why I don't like all the shots from the point in PPs, such low percentage plays unless you get a rebound.

The Sharks wanted to prove they weren't soft and prevent the main board thread. Thornton led them to a 2-0 deficit only to hit and come back. Just like they drew up.

Incorrect. A Ryane Clowe hat trick is a goal, a fight, and a backhand top shelf goal in the shootout. This did not happen tonight.

The Pens are a high infraction team. A lot of it comes from their trap not just personnel and heavy hitting. I am surprised that Leggo went as low as he did. Stuff like that should raise eyebrows with ref supervision. Call counts like Pens/Sharks should happen in games with teams like the Preds or Wild.

Well I'm pretty sure there was at least one call when a ref got sluged in the face during a fight

I'm all for pushing the limits and letting two great teams play to a certain extent, but when one of those teams is behind and pushing the other team into those penalties with their play and it's not getting called, then I have a problem.

It's hard to tell live and without replays and I haven't watched the Pen's much this year, but my senses get tingly when I see their record, see the way the game is called tonight and they still don't have Crosby.

They have an excellent team and my conspiracy spider senses see them in SCF's if tonight is any indication.

Nice to see McGinn get a goal but the third line still can't score.
