Alzner did fine at RD last game, but I would like to see Sarge get some games over there too. If he is as good as his stats say he is, he can handle it just fine. And in fact I have seen him do great at RD in previous years.

I have to admit it was great seeing Sarge actively go after someone on his first shift last game, when he rubbed someone out on the half wall. It didnt cripple his game, he didnt have to fight, he didnt take a penalty. I hope he builds on that. Anyone that said he cannot and will not ever hit, you may be wrong.

Schultz does seem to be impressing pretty much everyone this season. Still makes an occasional cringe-worthy blunder and still not clearing the crease, but he's actually being effective with his size this year. Me likey.

Carlson looked pretty bad on the Ducks PP goal (think it might of been Perry who scored). He allowed the Duck player to stand just outside of the crease and have several whacks at the puck and didn't try to physically clear him out.

I'm starting to think that Schultz and Perrault are the ones we see packaged with picks at the deadline, but hey, who knows.
Really am impressed with this group, so far. Still playing well with Green out, since we have Wideman to absorb some of the responsibility on the PP. The only gripe I have is that we're not shooting enough on the PP, and our pk needs to improve a little.

The PK needs more 55. He's only averaging about 1 min per game and hasn't been on the ice for a GA yet. It's the perfect place to take some heavier minutes away from Hamrlik who is getting twice as much ice time shorthanded and is statistically easily the worst defenseman on the PK.

He has been more assertive, OK for him. He has always had his solid base, but his game has development only at a snails pace over the years, but this year, that snail is hauling ass. Ovi put a splash of redbull in his Shirley Temple. He has accumulated a years worth of rubbing out guys along the boards in just 10 games. No joke. Baby steps... or maybe that baby is learning to walk proper.

Bruce always said he is fearless but I almost always got the impression he plays scared. If he gets some confidence from hitting and being more assertive, his development could take off.

I still want to see him aggressively go after loose pucks, or guys that get around his dpair. Although he may have already exceeded my developement expectation bar for this year.

I fully expect Backstrom (Doughy as Milbury calls him) to have another big game. This weekend should be exciting and can't wait to see Ovy play.

Go Caps!

First one was miscommunication between new partners. Still think a vet like hammer should have expected Wides to leave the puck for him.

The second one was a slow, old Dman not getting there in time and Wides letting the puck go through him. He's supposed to be in that position when the puck is in the far corner. You don't leave the front to cover someone in the circle. Sometimes, even at this level, pucks will get through you if caught offguard. A vet like Wides shouldn't be caught guessing there.

I want nothing more than to never, ever see Sarge at RD.

Okay that was a Texas hyperbole but still.

I still think Wideman just missed it rather than expecting a reversal. His stick touched the puck and he just left it there.

Nah IMHO it was a very smart play. If Hammer reads that he has tons of time and space for the breakout. It was agressive. But that type of execution is what separates the good D from the bad ones. Just like passing to the open dman in front of your net is a "OMG" moment for us rec league guys... but for top notch transition, its a must.

I'd rather have our RDman do that 20E6 x's over than carry the puck.... well, except Greener. But he can grab and go and transition like no other. Wonder if Hammer had a mind-fart based on who he's playing with. Make the mistake now, not later.

Not gonna see this one until tomorrow, DVR time.

Cant stand Canes, it seems to me that diving and embellishing is the team philosophy, i hope we can stay out of the box, but with pissed off OV it might be difficult.
Penalties: 6-2 Canes.
Score: 4-2 Caps.

Oh Hell yeah on the modification of the GTD.

That Chernobly and Leninade are awesome... I'm glad my avatar inspired them.

Ovechkin - Backstrom - Semin
Eakin - Johansson - Brouwer
Chimera - Laich - Ward
Hendricks - Halpern - Knuble

Erskine - Wideman
Hamrlik - Carlson
Alzner - Schultz

Neuvirth
Vokoun

Brouwer playing, Perreault the healthy scratch, and Semin on the top-line.
