I do like to take shots at JM. Because he is makes our team sit back in 1 goal games and never stands up for his team when theres a bad call or anything. He has no character
Agreed. It's important for coaches to stand up for their players when they get bad calls. The players feel better about themselves, and the coach may even get the officials to reverse the call. It also keeps players focused on the game. Therrien was the master of this.
Jmac just got surrounded, cornered, beat up and robbed
Another great game by Cole. While he definitely deserves more points than he currently has, did anyone expect him to make a presence every shift like he has been doing? His mix of speed and strength is something to be admired.
Dont write Emelin off too quickly, if there is a guy we should work on, thats Emelin, solid package of physical tools and skills, just needs a bit of refine and adjust to the system..

Frankly, I'm just surprised he can get over the boards without Staal's help.

When coaches lose it sometimes, there's a reason for that! It''s called tactics & managing human beings is the best tactics of all, JM doesn't have that ability.

With all respect, I think there's some dynamics you might not understand in hockey.
If you think Martin told his team after the Sens goal "OK guys, time to sit back", you're wrong. If you play or played hockey, you know how this concept of momentum actually works. It's hard to understand, and even harder to work against it.
Also, showing emotions (or character) behind the bench isn't always good. Players need to feel the coach is in control, otherwise, they lose it themselves and it never gives good results.
Still, I'm not a Jacques Martin fan at all. I don't think he's the kind of coach this team needs. But not for the reasons you bring here.
see the like/dislike poll thread. I dont need to prove anything now go out and stop looking for arguments its a friday night...I assume this is what you and bIll do on your weekends?..sheesh, go out or something
A third period riddled with scoring effects (teams that are trailing tend to shoot a lot more than teams in the lead). I didn't get to watch the first two periods, but 2 points in the bag. From the looks of things the Habs dominated when the score was tied.
Tortorella is a different kind. He's got a huge ego. He doesn't stand up for his players, he stands up for himself and gives a show. He thinks he's better than anybody and that's how he might actually becomes it.
That might works well on short terms. But still, some players will like it, others won't.
It doesn't matter what is your tactic as a coach. What matters, is how you stick to it and show to your player that you know where you are going.
And what is even more important, and that concerns the GM, is to actually assemble a team in some way that the identity will suit well with the coach. That's the part where I still have some doubts.

Get back to me when you understand the concept of a discussion board.
If you're going to make baseless accusations, prepare to 'discuss' them. Also, stop letting strangers on the internet ruin your life.
Just finished watching the game. Habs looked great in the first 2 periods, let Ottawa in it in the 3rd though, I really wanted PK benched after that Ottawa goal but he made some nice defensive plays after that, I forgave him a little.
I don't want to be one of those guys, but sometimes I wish Gorges or Plekanec were the captains, I know I don't know what goes on in the dressing room, but I'd love to see a captain that leaves it all on the ice and I'm not finding anything inspiring about Gionta this season.
I only watch the 3rd period. And it's horrible. It's like men play with kids. We do nothing else than dumping the puck.
At least, Cole seems working hard.
Well, you missed the two other periods where the Habs played very well.
2-0 lead going into the last period playing the team that has the most 3rd period goals, you thought the Sens were going to sit back? They have come back from deficits in the 3rd many times already this year.
We didn't sit back, we weathered the storm that was obviously coming. After five days off, you should be applauding them, not calling them kids.
