He looks a lot better without playing with Kovalchuk. When he's on the same line as him, he tries to be Kovalchuk 2.0 and doesn't have nearly enough talent to do that. He's better when he keeps it simple like he's doing now on the lower lines.

In the last frame, the bottom of Moose's mask is clearly visible and despite the 3 facts and the goalie helmet in the picture, the guy guesses Volchenkov
That looked like a total tank job on the guess, clearly he didn't want the prize.

He was on my train home. They let him keep the stick.

He told me he gave the DVD away.

But I laughed at him anyway. I mean, what could be better than a Daneyko-autographed stick?
Not much that would fit in a box

That's kind of lame actually that they let him keep the stick, but I guess they figured he got embarassed enough with the Taylor Swift nonsense.

Quote:
I didn't know what the DVD was. My wife started dying laughing and I was like is that some movie and she explained it. I noticed he never let go of the stick though. Looked like they were going to have to pry it away from him.
The really funny thing is when the guy passed up the stick, I said to the guy next to me 'I hope this isn't Taylor Swift concert tickets'. Damned if I wasn't just about right lol...tickets would have been better actually.

Fyi, the guy who took the mystery box is my friend sean. They told him to take the box and that he could keep the stick anyway.. just for laughs. All these contests are staged anyway..

Interesting... Cheapens the whole thing but at the same time it's pretty damn funny that the Devils organization thought it would be funny to give a hockey fan Taylor Swift memorabilia.

Thanks feerlessleadr. That Henrique OT goal will go into my Devils youtube vid rotation along with the Kovy OT winner against the Penguins.

So in other words, that was as staged as the MSG failed marriage proposal a couple of years ago

Is that really the case?

I don't think all of the contests are staged.

Depends on the contest and the organization. If it is a big sponsored contest (with a big prize) most likely it isn't. If it is just the team giving something small away then it is. I remember going to a Yankees game several years and for one of the trivia questions they cut back to the contestant too soon and you could see the Yankees rep giving them the answer.

Now when I did work in College at Maryland most of our in game contest were "legit." But they were mostly sponsored as well. For instance there was one similar to what you described where the contestant had to pick a pizza box that listed a prize inside (kind of like deal or no deal). One of the prizes was a Taylor Swift cd, which someone actually won one time. However the grand prize was free papa johns for a year, so there was no way they were rigging that. Also some of the sponsored contest have qualification on who can participate. One of the on court shooting contest for basketball we couldn't pick anyone who even played high school basketball.

Speaking of in-game promotions I remember in the 90's (1993 or 1994), a 13-year-old actually won the car in score-o. I played hockey with the son of the Cadillac dealer who held the sponsorship at the time and they actually had to give kid the car. They changed it the next year where if you were under 18 you won a bike instead.

Elias' goal, well during virtually that whole sequence I was saying out loud "what is Bogosian doing?" then ended with "what a terrible play by Bogosian". Yeah, I don't think I want that guy on this team.

I wonder how many years of his paper route money it took to pay for the taxes on that puppy

I'm excited for next week, Tuesday's game is on VS. and both Friday and Saturday's games are on NHL Network. I get to watch all of those games on my tv in HD!!!

Then after that the Sabres the next week is on VS (Doc's first Devils game), and then Tampa I will get locally.

Anyone else notice how much better Volchenkov and Salvador have been playing now that they are separated?

They look about the same to me. It's just that they're not magnifying or compounding the others mistakes anymore.

Sal has been OK, and Volch is still a monster blocking shots, but they are both still God awful with the puck in their own end, often turn it over, and get coned too often. At least when split they have guys who can help them get the puck out.

Anyone see Sal just wipe out, while carrying the puck, just inside his zone last night for no reason? No one around. He just went down into the boards and proceeded to flop like a fish out of water looking for the puck

This is what I'm talking about. When they are both on the ice at the same time it is just scary, in a bad way. When Greene gets back I hope we switch things up on defense.

Tallinder-Fayne
Volchenkov/Salvador-Larsson
Greene-Volchenkov/Salvador

Hah! 2 Pizza Hut owners down in the Tampa area just got arrested for torching their neighborhood pizza competing Papa Johns to the ground.
